IJT offices in PU 'reopened'
LAHORE, Dec 13, 2007: The Punjab University (PU)
students on Wednesday expressed concern over reopening of Islami Jamiat Talaba
offices on the campus.
The PU administration had closed down the offices
last month after the IJT activists manhandled Imran Khan on the campus. Students
said IJT was still "active" on the campus. They said IJT had also been holding
political gatherings in several hostels.
Sufiyan, a PU Law College
student, said IJT activists had reopened their offices in Institute of Chemical
and Engineering Department and Institute of Education and Research. He said the
two departments were the hub of IJT's activities.
Interestingly PU
acting vice chancellor (VC) Dr Arif Butt is the Director of PU Chemical and
Engineering Department.
Last month PU acting VC Dr Arif Butt had vowed
to students that no one would be allowed to do political activities on the
campus. The VC had also announced to close down IJT offices. On the promise of
Dr butt, the students had stopped anti-IJT movement.
He said the
anti-IJT movement was not cooled down, but they were trying to organise their
movement.
He said IJT workers had been organising a programme PU IJT
Nazim App Kay Rubaru. In the programme, he said, the PU IJT nazim had visited
hostels to promote their agenda.
On condition of anonymity, a student
said IJT activists had held a meeting in Hostel-14. He said majority of the
hostel were against IJT.
PU IJT media secretary Imran Kiyani said IJT
workers were visiting hostels to solve problems of the students. He said IJT
offices were still closed.
PU Registrar Dr Naeem Ahmad Khan said that political activities were banned on the campus. He said, "According
to my knowledge IJT offices are still closed." He said PU is planning to provide
a space in PU regarding co-curricular activities. Daily Times
