KU Assoc Prof takes Dean to court over promotion
KARACHI, Dec 13, 2007: An associate professor has
taken the University of Karachi (KU) to court over the promotion of the present
Dean of Islamic Learning, who he claims is not qualified for the post.
A
constitutional petition was filed by Associate Prof Dr Naseer Ahmed Akhtar who
applied for the post of Assistant Professor that was advertised in national
newspapers.
Akhtar has challenged the KU Syndicate's decision to declare
him ineligible for the post and instead promote Prof Jalaluddin Noori. Akhtar
has maintained that Prof Noori lacks experience and has also submitted fake and
forged documents.
Akhtar attached a number of documents to his petition,
including the minutes of a meeting of the KU syndicate which demoted Prof Noori
from the post of Assistant Professor to Associate Professor for submitting
incorrect documents by reducing the date of his birth by one year. In its
meeting on Oct 19, 2002 the Syndicate decided to issue Noori a show-cause notice
to explain why he should not be fired for submitting fake documents. At the same
meeting, the Syndicate also decided that the date of birth mentioned by Noori at
the time of employment (1950) would be considered his actual date of birth and
not 1951 as mentioned in his NIC (Corrected).
Akhtar has also challenged
the publication Noori's thesis and other research papers.
The bench
hearing the case comprises Justice Munib Ahmed Khan and Justice Dr Rana M.
Shamim. They heard Dr Akhtar's lawyer and issued pre-admission notice to Noori
and the KU Vice Chancellor on Wednesday. Daily Times
