New Faculty of Management Sciences at KU, Dept of Chemistry professor honoured
Karachi, Dec 11, 2007: Dr Abu Zar Wajedi, Dean of the newly-created Faculty of
Management Sciences at the University of Karachi (KU) has expressed hope that
the new faculty would impart quality education in the field of Management
Sciences to the students belonging to the not-so-affluent classes.
Dr
Wajedi, who was talking to us on Monday, was of the opinion the new
faculty would also help in the enhancement of educational standards and generate
interest among the student community towards this important discipline. The
decision to create a new faculty was taken by the KU Syndicate and two names of
the professors Dr Wajedi and Dr Syed Humayun, both of the Department of Public
Administration (DPA), were sent to the Governor, Sindh. Dr Wajedi is currently
the Chairman of the department. The new faculty will have departments of
Commerce, Business Administration and Public Administration. It may be recalled
that the new faculty has been created in place of Faculty of Commerce that had
become a dead horse for more than 13 years. The last dean of the Commerce
Faculty was Dr Abdul Wahab and Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and
Department of Commerce were included in the Faculty of Commerce. The IBA opted
out of the KU in 1994 to become a degree warding institution and the department
of Commerce was included in the Faculty of Arts.
According to Dr Wajedi,
the field Management Sciences had assumed importance in the fast changing global
scenario and it was imperative that it should be a separate faculty for better
and coordinated management and academic faculty. "The members of the KU
Syndicate reached the conclusion that the three departments were very important
and their working under a new faculty was indispensable. The News
