'New HSC scheme of studies be deferred'
KARACHI, Dec 03, 2007: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers' Association (SPLA)
has expressed concern over the non-issuance of model papers and new books for
HSC course by the education boards in the province.
A SPLA meeting was
held here on Sunday with its president Prof Syed Riaz Ahsan in the chair. It was
attended by Prof Manzoor Hussain Chishti, Prof Siddiq Unar, Prof Ayub Marri,
Prof Athar Hussain Mirza, Prof Yaqoob Chandio, Prof Iftikhar Mohammad Azami and
others.
During the meeting the proposed scheme of studies at the HSC
level and the possible problems in its implementation came under discussion. The
meeting was told that the education department had not yet issued any
notification regarding the division of the examination papers into three
categories i.e. subjective, objective and short questions.
The
participants expressed their concern that despite the passage of half of the
academic year, none of the intermediate boards in the province had prepared
model papers for the upcoming examinations.
They were of the view that
the timely issuance of these model papers was of great importance as these
papers gave an idea to the students as how to prepare for the exams and to score
high.
The SPLA leaders said that the boards had also not
published and released new textbooks in the market in accordance with
the new scheme of studies and no notification in this regard had so far been
issued.
They urged the authorities to defer the implementation of the new
scheme of studies till the issuance of model papers and new
textbooks. PPI
