PU election results: Medical admission
LAHORE, Dec 14, 2007: Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Salik of the
Academic Group on Thursday re-elected as the president of the Punjab University
Academic Staff Association (PUASA) by securing 244 votes out of 550.
His
rivals Dr Saeed Ahmed Nagra of the Teachers Front obtained 109 votes and Dr
Moeenuddin of the Academic Forum secured 67 votes.
Mahar Saeed Akhtar of
the Academic Group was elected General Secretary by securing 226 votes while his
opponents Khujista Rehan from the Teachers Front got 109 votes and Iftikhar
Ahmad Tarrar secured 109 votes.
Eight executive body members have also
been selected. They are Abdul Majid Rana, Abid Raza Khan, Dr Javaid Iqbal,
Kamran Mirza, Muhammad Ramzan, Suliman Aziz, Abida Ltif and Dr Marghoob
Hussain.
The majority of the teachers are said to be Jamaat-e-Islami
sympathisers and have a strong influence in the university.
A PU teacher,
seeking anonymity, alleged that a fair academic environment could not be
achieved because of the Jamaat-e-Islami's interference in the university's
affairs.
He said students were this time raising their voice against
Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT), which was the Jamaat's student wing. Daily Times
Admission for medical diploma
LAHORE: Punjab University Examination Department on Thursday issued the
admission schedule for various medical diploma examinations. According to a
notification, the admission forms with single fee for annual examination-2006 of
Part-I of DA, DOMS, DLO, DMRD, and DMRT can be submitted till January 15, 2008
and with double fee till January 23, 2008. While, the examinations will commence
from January 29, 2008. APP
PU DS father laid to rest
LAHORE: Punjab University Deputy Registrar (DS) Iqbal Khalil's father
Khalil Ahmad was laid to rest at a local graveyard on Thursday. His funeral
prayer was offered at Madrassa Anwarul Uloom, Muhajarabad here, which was
attended by PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arif Butt, Registrar Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Naeem Khan, Additional Registrar Col. (R) Mustansar Javed, Additional
Treasurer Rao Muhammad Sharif, faculty members and administration staff. His Qul
will be held after Jumma prayer at Madrassa Anwarul Uloom, Muhajarabad, Multan
Road here Friday.
PhD degree awarded
LAHORE: The University of Punjab has awarded the PhD
degree to Samina Shahid, Head of the Chemistry Department Queen Mary College
Lahore. Samina has done her PhD in Chemistry after the approval of her thesis
"Transition Metal Complexes with Some Derivatives of Triacetic Lactone" Prof Dr.
Javed Iqbal, a renowned scientist of Institute of Chemistry University of the
Punjab Lahore was the supervisor. The research was done on the applications of
Transition Metal Complexes, such as anti tumor, anti-fungal, anti cancer and
anti bacterial, with encouraging results. The News
