US immigration issues Urdu help book
WASHINGTON, Dec 12, 2007: The US Citizenship and Immigration Services has
introduced an Urdu language version of its publication, "Welcome to the United
States: A Guide for New Immigrants."
Designed for new permanent residents
and the organisations that serve them, the book contains practical information
to help immigrants settle into everyday life in the US. Since its introduction
three years ago, the book has been revised to include new online services
available from USCIS and expanded information about government agencies and
community organisations. The guide also includes basic civics information.
"Welcome to the United States" includes sections on the rights and
responsibilities of permanent residents and how to obtain US citizenship. The
book also helps immigrants find a place to live, get a social security number,
look for a job, register children for school, find healthcare, enroll in English
language and adult education classes, prepare for emergencies, and locate
community organisations assisting those new to the US. Daily Times
