PU issued MSc Home Economics Annual Exam date-sheet
Lahore, Dec 08: The Punjab University (PU) Examination Department has issued the
date-sheet of MSc Home Economics, Annual Examination 2009. MSc Home Economics
Part-I Annual Examination 2009 will commence from December 22, 2009 and will
conclude on January 4, 2010 while MSc, Home Economics Part-II Annual Examination
2009 will commence from December 23, 2009 and will conclude on January 5, 2010.

Govt plans to establish university town
Lahore: Government of Punjab and a leading European consortium led by a Dutch
Company, ABS Nederland Bv signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to
establish a state of the art university town in the province. On behalf of the
Punjab Government, consultant to Chief Minister on Economic Affairs and Vice
Chairman Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT), Pir Saad Ahsanuddin signed
the MOU while Executive Director Finance Bauck Boersma represented the ABS
Nederland Bv, The MOU was signed at the PBIT office. The mega project is the
first of its kind in Punjab stretching to 7,500 acres with health and
engineering universities affiliated with European institutions and over 30,000
housing units. Pir Saad while giving details in this regard said that this 310
million US $ project will have a tremendous impact of social uplift on thousands
of people in Punjab as it will not only offer subsidized access to world-class
health and engineering education but also establish sustainable agricultural
practices through modern farming techniques and an economic opportunity zone. He
further told that this mega project would be built on a futurist energy
self-generation component and includes a detailed phase 2 plan of a
sophisticated windmill turbine farm. Pir Saad informed that this project is a
significant milestone in Punjab's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) targets after
new trade liberalization policies by the Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Mohmmad
Shahbaz Sharif and Priority projects such as the University Town will provide
employment to thousands and uplift auxiliary industry around the city in the

said that their company has come to Pakistan to work together for socio-economic

Students to benefit from NCUK, study for best UK degrees
Lahore: Pakistani students will be able to study for some of the
best UK degrees without travelling abroad and could undertake one, two or three
years of undergraduate studies in their country and then transfer to the UK at
whatever point they felt comfortable, Geoff Evans, project director for Pakistan
Operations of the Northern Consortium of the United Kingdom (NCUK), said on
Monday. NCUK, a consortium of 11 government universities operating in 10
countries, will start its services for students in the country from September
2010. Spread across the North of the UK, NCUK universities include the
prestigious universities of Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield. It also
includes those that specialise in providing employment ready graduates like the
Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Huddersfield. Geoff
said the model for NCUK had until recently been a simple one in which
international education institutions were licensed to deliver partial degree
programmes from which students were guaranteed access to one of the 11 owner

Australian agriculture-related scholarships
Multan: Australian High Commissioner Tim George has said that 100
agriculture-related scholarships will be given to Pakistani students for higher
education. Speaking to participants at a lunch hosted by City District
Nazim Mian Faisal Mukhtar here on Monday, Mr George said that Australia would
also provide technical assistance to Pakistan in the field of agriculture.
He said various agriculture-related programmes would be started with the
collaboration of Bahauddin Zakariya University to make students aware of the
techniques of modern farming and increase in the production standard.
The High Commissioner said his country would also provide assistance in
cattle farming and dairy related projects. He said that Multan was
producing the best quality mangoes in the world but the production and size of

UHS Pharm-D programme
Lahore: University of Health Sciences (UHS) has approved Pharm-D
programme to be started in its affiliated institutes and colleges from the next
year. According to a press release here on Monday, the programme will be
of five years duration and the UHS has adopted the HEC approved curriculum for
this course. This new programme will help the UHS to collaborate with
pharmaceutical industry, resulting in advancement of research in health
sciences. The subjects to be taught in Pharm-D programme include
pharmaceutical chemistry, biochemistry, physical pharmacy, physiology, anatomy,
pharmaceutical mathematics and biostatistics, microbiology, pathology,
dispensing and community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, industrial pharmacy,
quality management and pharmaceutical management and marketing. The news

Gold medal awarded to BNU student
Lahore: A visually impaired student enrolled in the Beaconhouse National
University (BNU) was awarded a gold medal on Monday for outstanding performance
in MA in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). Punjab Governor
Salmaan Taseer, present on the occasion to distribute gold medals to the 21 BNU
students who had secured highest positions in their relevant subjects, paid
respect to the blind student, Rauf Tahir Haidri. Among the group of 21
gold medallists, Rauf stood proud after scoring a CGPA of 3.95 in TESL. Rauf said
that he was a resident of Lahore, adding that he had earlier
completed his Masters in English Literature from the Government College
University (GCU), Lahore. He said he now wished to study abroad for a PhD.
Talking about his accomplishment, Rauf said he had proved
that "with determination and hard work, one could face any challenge and could
achieve success". He credited his parents' prayers and friends' cooperation with
having played a "major role in his success". He said BNU faculty members
had encouraged and supported him during his time at the university, adding that
literature was his favorite subject. The fourth BNU convocation featured a total
of 245 students who were awarded degrees, including 17 from the School of Visual
Art, 35 from the School of Architecture and Design, 29 from the School of
Liberal Arts, 42 from the School of Mass Communication, 12 from the School of
Computer and Information Technology, 16 from the School of Social Sciences, 71
from the School of Education, 14 from the school of Psychology and nine Post

Lahore: The elections for Medical Teachers Association of Allama Iqbal
Medical College/Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, were held at AIMC on Monday. Medical
teachers of the institution elected office-bearers including Prof Nadeem Hafeez
Butt as President, Dr Tajjamal Chaudhry as Vice President, Dr Tehseen Riaz as
General Secretary, Prof Nausheen Umar as Finance Secretary and Dr Ehsan-ul-Haq
as Joint Secretary. The oath-taking of the newly elected office-bearers will be
