PU issued MA MSc Part-I Supple exam datesheet
Lahore, Dec 12: The Punjab University (PU) Examination Department has issued the
date-sheet of MA/MSc Part-I Supplementary Examination 2009. The exam will
commence from January 5, 2010 and will conclude on January 12, 2010. Detailed
date-sheet is also available on PU website www.pu.edu.pk

PU book published
Lahore: Punjab University Research Society of Pakistan (PURSP) has
published a book entitled ‘History & Civilisations of the Muslim World’. The
book comprises fourteen chapters including John O’Brien’s ‘Islamic Civilisation
and Minorities: The Pakistan Experience’, Tariq Rehman’s ‘The Role of English in
Pakistan with Special Reference to Tolerance and Militancy’, Ishtiaq Ahmad’s
‘OIC and the Muslim World: Overcoming Challenges of the 21st Century’, Bettina
Robotka’s ‘Religious Revivalism in South Asia: Historical Background and its

PGSSSA demanded upgradion for senior schoolteachers
Lahore: The Punjab Government Schools Senior Staff Association (PGSSSA)
has demanded the government award one step upgrade for senior schoolteachers.
PGSSSA president Hafiz Abdul Nasir and other office-bearers said during the
recent period the Schools Department offered various privileges to junior
schoolteachers including upgrade for primary schoolteachers from BPS 7 to 9 and
even BPS 14 under the Upward Mobility. They said senior teachers of BPS 17 and
above had been feeling deprived, as no announcement had been made about their
welfare.

GCU 8th convocation
Lahore: The Government College University (GCU) is holding its 8th
convocation at the varsity’s Bokhari Auditorium on Saturday (today) in which 52
rolls of honor and medals will be conferred on students besides academic
degrees. About 33 doctorate degrees will also be conferred on students;
two in the field of Botany, six in Chemistry, one in Economics, 19 in
Mathematics, one in Urdu, two in Physics, one in Statistics and one PhD in the
field of Zoology. On Friday, the full dress rehearsal of the convocation
was held from 10am to 11:30am. GCU Controller Examinations A S Bokhari
said that the time of the convocation had been changed from 9am to 10am, adding
the guests were being informed in this regard. He said only postgraduate
students and position-holders would be given degrees at the convocation while
remaining students would be given degrees at a prize distribution ceremony on
December 14, 2009 at the Bokhari Auditorium.

Kinnaird College debate competition
Lahore: Directorate of Human Rights Punjab organised a debate
competition among the students of different schools at Government Kinnaird
College for Women on Friday. The event was a part of directorate’s
weeklong campaign to create awareness about human rights. The students
spoke about the role of parents, teachers, society and the government in
connection with protection and promotion of human rights. The students
also presented national songs and earned great appreciation from the audiences.
Hifza Tahir secured first position while Ammar Bin Rizwan and Mubashara
Hafeez secured second and third positions respectively. Former Director National
Administrative Staff College Afzal Khayal spoke on the occasion and said
educated society could understand the importance of human rights, adding it
could also put the country on the right track. He also stressed the need
for giving children their rights, saying it could lead to an educated society.
He said it was unfortunate that our police were involved in violating
human rights, adding there was also a need that to respect the rights of
everybody without any discrimination.
