PU declared the results of various examinations
Lahore, Dec 13: The Punjab University declared the results of
various examinations on Saturday. According to a press statement, these
exams are MPhil Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, two-year programme,
Semester System, Session 2007-2009, MPhil (Pharmacy) Pharmaceutical Chemistry,
Semester System, Session 2005-2007, MPhil (Pharmacy) Pharmaceutics, Semester
System, Session 2005-2007, MPhil (Pharmacy) Pharmacology, Semester System,
Session 2005-2007, MPhil (Pharmacy) Pharmacognosy, Semester System, Session
2005-2007, MPhil Physics, Semester System, Session 2004-2005, MPhil Solid State

Sudanese envoy met PU VC
Lahore: Sudan Embassy First Secretary Mohamed Eldei
Ali called on Punjab University (PU) Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Jamil Anwar
Chaudhry at Quaid-e-Azam Campus and discussed avenues of academic collaboration
between the PU and Khartoum University. Mohamed Eldei Ali said Sudanese
students always gave the embassy positive remarks about the PU and they never
complaint about this great university of Pakistan. He invited a PU delegation to
Khartoum University. Prof Jamil Anwar said there were strong religious
and cultural ties between the people of both countries. He said the PU had 13
faculties, 65 departments with 30,000 on-campus students. He hoped that
soon a memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be signed between both varsities
for linkage in the subjects of mutual interest. Dr Anwar said that Sudan was the
blend of the Arabian and African cultures.

PM announced Rs 100million for GC University
Lahore: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday announced Rs 100 million for the renovation of the GC
University, Lahore. The funds will go towards the reconstruction and
renovation of the historic Old Building of the campus, which dates from the 19th
century, as well as the renovation of the Iqbal Hostel, where poet-philosopher
Allama Muhammad Iqbal lived during his days as a student at Government College.
Chairing the university's eighth convocation at the Bukhari Auditorium, Gilani
also announced Rs 10 million for the university endowment fund. The PM was
accompanied by Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer and Punjab Senior Minister Raja
Riaz. Addressing the ceremony, Gilani – himself an old Ravian – said he
felt proud to be invited as the chief guest to the convocation of his alma
mater, which has always been a role model for seats of learning in the country.
He said that students should follow in the footsteps of their predecessors,
great men such as Allama Iqbal, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Dr Abdul Salam, Patras Bukhari
and Ghulam Mustafa Tabbasum, as they are the perfect role models for the younger
generation. The PM also reminisced about his days at Government College.
Having graduated in 1974, he told his captivated student audience about his time
at the university's New Hostel and how he was inspired by the political
movements taking place at that time. He said that the Nasir Bagh (opposite the
college) was used for political gatherings at the time. Gilani said that
promoting education was the top priority of his government and he kept a close
eye on the performance of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Daily times

Contractual employees regularisation
Lahore: Secretary Schools Education Muhammad Aslam Kamboh has directed the EDOs
to issue the orders to regularise contractual employees of the educational
department in their respective jurisdiction on the terms and conditions approved
by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif to benefit them. These directions
were issued by him while addressing the meeting of EDOs of the province. The
meeting was attended by DPI (Secondary Education) Mian Abdul Haq, Additional
Secretary Schools Education Ghulam Abbas Sargana and other high-ranking officers
of the department. The secretary said the contract employees of the
education department were main beneficiaries of the chief minister's approval
for the appointment of contract employees on regular basis. He further said
appointment order on regular basis must be got issued of the contract employees
by the respective appointing authorities on the pattern of provided specimen in
seven days. Certificates to this effect should be provided to the additional
secretary schools by the competent authorities along with number of appointments
of each category. He further directed to take action against the teachers who
showed extremely poor performance in grade IV and grade VIII examinations. The nation

CM's speech contests
Lahore: As many as 1,780 students took part in the
fourth phase of Chief Minister Punjab's Speech and Essay Writing Competitions
2009. Divisional level essay writing contests for students of primary to
postgraduate classes were held throughout the province on Saturday. As
many as 210 students participated from Lahore division while 307 from Gujranwala
division, 188 from Faisalabad, 213 from Multan, 136 from Sargodha, 191 from
Rawalpindi, 204 from DG Khan, 166 from Sahiwal and 165 students from Bahawalpur
divisions took part in the contests. On December 14 (Monday), primary
level divisional Urdu speech contests would be held in all districts of the
province. Competitions of Lahore Division would be held in the Central
Model School, Rattigan Road in which district level position holders would
participate.

Religious scholars thoughts
Lahore: Religious scholars of all school of thoughts
and sects are cooperating with the government to maintain harmony and unity in
the country. This was stated by Commissioner Lahore Khusro Pervaiz while
presiding over a meeting of Itehad Bain-ul-Muslimeen Lahore Division on
Saturday. Religious scholars, representing different sects, police officers and
representatives of concerned departments attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Khusro said those involved in terrorism had no
faith and religion. "It is the need of the hour to remain united to defeat the
terrorists", he added. The meeting also reviewed arrangements during
Muharram-ul-Harram. The meeting decided to thoroughly inspect all such
shops and houses located alongside the Zuljinnah route. Suspected vehicles will
not be allowed to come near the Zuljinnah procession. Moreover, data of workers
and employees of all restaurants, shops, factories and others will be collected
before the start of Muharram-ul-Harram. The news
