No progress in KU bus firing case
Karachi, Feb 07, 2008: The police have so far made little progress in resolving the case
of the minibus firing near the Karachi University (KU) on September 14, 2007, as
only sketches of the suspected killers have been prepared.
The
investigation officials of the case said that they have prepared
sketches of the suspects involved in the killing of the seven people based on
the description provided by the bus driver.
However, the police have not
publicly circulated these sketches to date.
The investigation officials
said that they were able to complete the post-mortem of all those killed in the
incident.
At least four students of KU lost their lives and others were
injured as unknown motorcyclists opened fire and later hurled a hand grenade on
minibus number PE-1686 of the route G-7 near the staff town gate of the
university around sunset.
Seven people died in the incident among which
three of the deceased students belonged to the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT).
They were identified as Imran Shahid, Muhammad Siddique, Atif Butt and Kaacho
Habibullah. The News
Schools, colleges closed
Karachi, Feb 07: Schools and colleges will be closed on Thursday,
according to a notification issued by Education Secretary Dr Mohammad Ali on the
orders of caretaker chief minister Abdul Qadir Halepota.
No reason has
been mentioned in the notification for the unscheduled holiday.
However,
universities will remain open and exams will be held according to the schedule.
This includes the BCom (external) exams being held at different colleges, says a
Karachi University official.
University postpones today's paper
Hyderabad, Feb 07: The University of Sindh has postponed the examination
paper of affiliated degree colleges and private institutes scheduled for Feb
7.
According to an announcement, the same paper of the affiliated degree
colleges will now be held on Feb 15, and affiliated private institutes will be
held on Feb 16.
Meanwhile, the university syndicate has appointed Dr
Mohammad Usman Memon as new director of Dr M.A. Kazi Institute of Chemistry,
University of Sindh, in its meeting held here.
The syndicate also
appointed Dr Shamsuddin Shaikh as new chairman of the department of zoology of
the university.
The meeting approved renaming the seminar library of the
department of Comparative Religion and Islamic Culture of the university as
Professor Dr A.J.Halepota seminar library. Dawn
