Nawabshah medical colleges: SU admission
Semester system introduced in Nawabshah medical colleges
Nawabshah, Feb 02, 2008: The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Liaquat University of Medical
Sciences (LUMS), Professor Naushad Shaikh, said on Thursday this year the
American semester system of medical education had been introduced in medical
colleges in order to raise the local standard of medical education to
international standard.
Talking to newsmen at the Nawabshah Press Club,
he said the semester system had been introduced this year at the Liaquat
University of Medical Sciences and the affiliated medical colleges, including
the Nawabshah Medical College for Girls, the Chandka Medical College and the
Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College.
The system had already been
working properly at the Agha Khan Medical University and the ISRA University,
while the Dow Medical College was preparing for its introduction, Naushad
added.
The VC said the students completing their studies in the medical
colleges would feel easy to compete with students of other countries.
Naushad said the students, on the one side, would keep their full
attention on the curriculum round the year and, on the other, would be able to
fully prepare themselves for competition with students of other
countries.
The VC said the students would now be taught additional
subjects of community health, public health, information technology and
bio-ethics in order to create awareness among the people of their area and their
own families regarding children diseases and care.
The services of IT
experts would be taken from the IT Department of the Quaid-e-Awam University of
Engineering, Science and Technology, he added. Under the semester system, he
said, teachers would also be provided training through workshops on various
subjects.
Regarding recent admissions in the first year in medical
colleges, Professor Naushad said the admissions were given purely on merit and
in a transparent manner, due to which not a single complaint was received this
year.
Special instructions were issued for the promotion of sports and
extra-curricular activities and financial assistance would be provided in this
respect, he added.
He said he would try his best for upgrading the
Nawabshah Medical College and Hospital and added that the problems of teachers
and students would also be resolved.
He further said he would take up
the issue of affiliation of the Nawabshah Medical College with the Liaquat
