PMA shows concern over DUHS semester system
Karachi, Feb 29, 2008: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) while appreciating the introduction of
the semester system at the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on Thursday
demanded the fulfillment of certain "requirements" for running it
successfully.
In a statement, the doctors' body pointed out that the
semester system is already in practice in two private medical universities and
one public university. However, there are certain requirements for this system
to run successfully. "There should be a full-time faculty in all the departments
from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.," the PMA said. The number of teachers should be in
accordance with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council rules and regulation.
For instance, there should be one demonstrator for every 20 students.
Simultaneously, the teaching facilities should be increased and modern teaching
aids be provided in every department. If these requirements are not fulfilled
then this system will also tend to fail, the PMA said. The News
