Private schools will still start year in April

Karachi, Feb 16, 2008: The All Private Schools Management Association (APSMA) Sindh has refused to accept the government's decision to start the academic year in August and will be starting the academic year in April as usual.

This was announced by the APSMA Central Chairman Syed Khalid Shah at a press conference Friday.

"After extensive consultation, we have reached the decision that private schools in Sindh will be starting their academic year in April. Since Punjab, Balochistan, NWFP and Azad Kashmir did not accept the decision taken by the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Committee (IPEMC) in 2005, they have started their academic year in April. However, schools in Sindh have been asked to start their academic year on August 16, 2008. Private schools have been threatened with cancellation of their registration if they did not comply," he said, adding that the IPEMC allowed Balochistan, NWFP and Azad Kashmir to start their academic year according to the weather. They should also allow Sindh to start its academic year from April because there is extremely hot weather in the interior of Sindh in August. Daily Times
