SEF to launch 100 schools this year
Karachi, Feb 25: Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) will launch another 100 schools
in Sindh under its 'Promoting Private Schooling in Rural Sindh (PPRS)'
programme. These schools will be run under the Public Private Partnership (PPP)
model. Director Programme, Operations and Research, SEF, Aziz Kabani said on
Tuesday. Last year, SEF started over 200 schools in different districts
of the province, he said. SEF, which is providing free education, has aimed to
provide quality education to the children at early age, he further said.
"SEF has launched two mega schemes with the aim of providing quality
education to the most underprivileged communities. One of these schemes is about
launching schools in rural areas while the Integrated Education Learning
Programme (IELP) is another mega pilot project of SEF," Kabani said. The
PPRS pilot project will cost Rs2997.613 million and will be completed in three
years, he said. The funds are provided by the government of Sindh and all
funding would be monitored by the communities, parents, teachers as well as
Sindh government. It will also observe through third party verification and
World Bank as a technical partner, he responded to a question asked by local
media. "Both projects are based on the per child subsidy model and this
would help in maintaining high standards of education in far flung areas," he
said, adding that 250, 000 children will be beneficiaries during the PPRS pilot
project. The schools would be set up in areas including Larkana,
Qambar-Shahdadkot, Dadu, Sanghar, Mithi, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto,
Badin, Thatta and Umerkot. SEF has warned all partners not to collect
single rupee from the students or their parents. In case the organisation
receives any complain in this regard, the contract will come to an end
immediately, Aziz Kabani said. The projects were envisaged to directly
benefit at least 2, 500 new and existing private schools and more than 500, 000
children from pre-primary to secondary levels. Furthermore, employment and
professional development opportunities will also create more than 5000
vacancies. Managing Director SEF, Prof Anita Ghulam Ali said that the
government should realise the need of manpower in certain fields.
"Unfortunately, there is no study done to calculate the requirement of workforce
in the industries and other production units. This is one of the main reasons of
skyrocketing unemployment in the country. This is the time to conduct proper
census to search the future demand of local and international markets," she advised. The news

Many CDGK schools may revert to Sindh govt
Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq has hinted
that the provincial government's schools devolved to the City District
Governments Karachi (CDGK) under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance-2001 will
return to the provincial education department soon. "A recommendation to
this effect is contained in the draft set of laws governing the local
governments in Sindh and a final decision in this regard will be taken with
consensus of coalition partners," he said. He made it clear that the
schools originally run by the defunct Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)
will remain under the control of the CDGK. Pir Mazhar, who is also a
senior member of the core committee comprising representatives of the Sindh
ruling coalition, said that the proposed LG laws would be called the "Sindh
Local Government Laws of 2010". The minister was speaking to journalists
after presiding over a gathering on the "second annual career guidance day"
organised jointly by the education department's directorate of private
educational institutions and the PEAK Private Schools Education, Sindh.

SU exams rescheduled
Hyderabad: Director, Institute of Sindhology, University of Sindh,
Muhammad Qasim Maka and also in-charge, Centre for Music Education, has said
that the examinations for certificate course and diploma course in music
education would begin from March 8. The last date for filling
examination forms is March 4. The controller of examinations of the
University of Sindh has announced postponement of BA, BSc, B.Com and BSc (Home
