No examination of class 9 this year
KARACHI, Feb 6(Dawn): It was decided in the Inter-provincial Education
Ministers meeting in 2005 that from 2006 all the provinces would shift to
composite examination system at matriculation level as a part of Education
Sector Reforms package.
This was stated in a news release issued by
Ministry of Education, Sindh here on Monday. Under this system, the students are
to be examined at the end of their two year studies ie after tenth class. This
was approved by the president of Pakistan as part of the Education Reforms
Programme.
All the provinces and the federal government agreed that there
would be no examination of class 9th in 2006 and the students shall appear in
composite examination in 2007. As a result of this policy there was no class 9th
examination in 2006 in the Punjab, the NWFP and Balochistan, it
added.
However, Sindh province sought a waiver for one year in
implementation of this new system from the president of Pakistan, which he
graciously granted, it said.
As the waiver was granted by President
General Pervez Musharraf just for one year, Sindh has to adopt the composite
examination system at matriculation level from this year, which means that here
would be no examination of class 9th this year and students of matriculation
examination shall be examined next year, it further said adding that any change
in the composite examination system lies with the president of Pakistan.
