Students oppose composite exam
KARACHI, Feb 9(Dawn): The students of various schools staged a demonstration in
front of Karachi Press Club on Thursday to protest against the Sindh Education
Minister's decision of holding composite examination for class IX and
X.
They carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the
government's decision and demanded the decision's withdrawal. The rally was
organised under the Private Schools Management Association
auspices
Addressing the gathering, the association's Senior Vice
President, Sharfuz Zaman said instead of studying the education policies of
neighbouring countries and formulating one to match the country's literacy rate
and promote education, students were facing hurdles in attaining education and
the composite exam system was yet another stumbling block on the path to
progress.
In a seminar held to protest against imposing composite exam
system, former city nazim Naimatullah Khan said the country's rulers were not
sincere in spreading education and this decision had created a sense of
deprivation among students.
Addressing the seminar organised by Islami
Jamiat Talaba, Mr Khan said imposition of questionable policy was misuse of
power and the government's silence on the issue was alarming.
