KARACHI, Feb 7(The News): A three-day book fair organised by the Students Aid Project (SAP) of
Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) was inaugurated at the University of Karachi, on
Tuesday.
Prof Ghafoor Ahmed, Central Naib Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, was
the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony while Dr Akhlaq Ahmed, Pro Vice
Chancellor of the varsity presided over the proceedings. The book fair consists
of more than 50 stalls with books on, fiction, Islamic Literature, Medicine,
Engineering and Technology. The books were offered to the visitors on different
discounted rates that varied from 15 to 30 per cent.
On the first day,
more than 6,000 people visited the fair that included a large number of
students, teachers. Prof Ghafoor acknowledged the academic pursuit of the IJT
and lamented that though education was of the prime importance for a country,
our rulers had given least importance to this sector. A cheap and affordable
education should have been the priority of the government but the lion's share
was being funneled to the indulgence of the rulers.
