Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Summit at LUMS
LAHORE, Feb 9(Daily Times): Pakistan's future lies in the hands of its youth, especially young
entrepreneurs, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) pro-chancellor
Syed Babar Ali said. He added that LUMS aimed at providing the youth a solid
platform and mentoring to establish their businesses.
He was addressing
the opening ceremony of the first Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Summit
organised by the LUMS Entrepreneurial Society (LES) at its campus on Thursday.
Ali said entrepreneurs were the backbone of a country's economy and the engines
that kept the society running. He said more than 2,600 students had earned
professional business degrees from LUMS and 10 percent of them were running
their own businesses. He said these people would lead the country in the future.
He said people should run businesses, believing in a healthy competition instead
of planning to develop monopolies.
LUMS vice chancellor Dr Syed Zahoor
Hassan said LUMS was developing an unprecedented culture of research in
Pakistan. He said the university was developing a number of modern faculties
including the School of Science and Engineering (SSE), social sciences, law,
economics etc, and these departments would generate solutions for Pakistan's
problems. The Indus Entrepreneur (TIE) Pakistan Chapter president Dr Khalid J
Chaudhry said the Pakistani youth should start believing in themselves and be
original in their approach. He said he believed the new generation could produce
entrepreneurs like Bill Gates if they worked with determination. LES founder
Hassan Khan Sherwani lamented that the world was struck by violence. He said,
"We should look into the root causes of issues when we seek their solutions." He
added that the economy was a major factor in many problems of the modern
society.
He said through the LES he wanted to find out solutions for the
people's problems and provide the country's youths a platform to share their
business ideas and boost their professional skills. A US-based young
entrepreneur Asad Alam and LES president Tayyab Javed also addressed the
ceremony.
