Punjab Governor appoints two VCs
LAHORE, Feb 8(Daily Times): Governor Lt Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool on Wednesday appointed Prof Dr
Muhammad Nawaz and Prof Dr Muhammad Akram Chaudhary vice-chancellors of the
University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, and the University
of Sargodha respectively.

An Islamic Perspective, by Dr Fathi Osman at the Punjab University's Allama
Iqbal campus, the governor said universities should promote Islamic values based
on justice, equality and protecting women's rights He said Holy Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh) had always fought for the rights of the poor, orphans and women. "He was
against parochialism," he said. He said Islam supports egalitarianism and social
justice, adding that it rejects extremism. He regretted that Muslims were being
killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. He urged the Muslim states to revise their
policies.
Maqbool said Islam was a complete code of life. "It is a key to
success in this world and the one hereafter," he said, adding, "There is no room
for terrorism and extremism in Islam." Dr Osman urged the Muslim youth to avail
the dividends of revolution in information technology to counter the propaganda
against Islam. He said universities and the intelligentsia should help promote
peace, humanity, tolerance and moderation. "We are open to humanity, against
aggression and not against any ideology." He favoured the students' exchange
programmes at universities in Muslim countries.
