Postponement of new academic session demanded
Karachi, Jan 07, 2008: Private Schools Management Association (PSMA) has demanded of
Education Department to defer its decision for new academic session starting
from April 1 till April 2009, as it would be impossible to finish the syllabus
on time, besides books could not be printed in this short time, which would
eventually have its repercussion on the students.
The demand was made at
a press conference by Vice President PSMA Sharfuzzaman here on Sunday. It may be
mentioned here that caretaker education minister had issued an order pertaining
to the revival of old academic calendar under which the new academic session
would now start from April 1.
With this announcement the current session
which started from August 1 last year would automatically reduce to nine months,
thus disturbing the entire process of teaching as well as publication of
books.
Keeping this apprehension in mind, the PSMA has demanded of the
government to review its planning and postpone the new session till 2009 so that
all the quarters concerned, including Sindh Text Book Board and teachers, could
get enough time to complete their working.
The books, he said, would not
be made available within this stipulated time and teachers would also not be
able to complete the syllabus.
"The current session should be concluded
on May 31 in the best interest of students and the revised schedule should be
implemented from next year by ensuring availability of books on time," he added.
Sharfuzzaman further said that schools remained closed for a number of
days owing to unrest in the city, while in the current year schools would be
closed in February due to general elections in the country.
The PSMA
also asked the authorities concerned to take stern action against the officials
of Sindh Text Book Board for failing to ensure availability of books in the
market before the commencement of new session. The News
