Bahria University fourth convocation held, 700 students graduate
Islamabad, Jan 13, 2008: Around 700 students of the
Bahria University received their degrees in various disciplines during the
fourth convocation held on the premises of Bahria College on Saturday.
A
large of number of parents of graduating students, faculty members and civil and
military officials attended the ceremony. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad
Afzal Tahir was the chief guest on the occasion. Gold medals were conferred upon
those students who excelled in Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master
of Computer Sciences (MCS), MSC (Geo), Bachelor of Business Administration
(BBA), Bachelor of Computer Sciences (BCS), BSE and Bachelor of Science (BSc).
Similarly, 19 students were awarded silver medals in courses of MBA, MCS, BBA,
BSE and SCE.
The convocation was opened with recitation of verses from
the Holy Quran. University Rector Vice Admiral (r) Farooq Rashid gave the
welcome address and highlighted the features of the university.
Speaking
on the occasion, chief guest Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir urged students to
equip themselves with sound knowledge in their respective fields of
specialisation. "Students should keep their minds open to new ideas, innovations
and modern skills to achieve professional growth," he said and stressed the need
for channelling the talent of students and energies into positive and healthy
activities with a commitment to serve their country and nation with utmost
sincerity and devotion.
Tahir said that strong leadership qualities could
be acquired through perseverance, professional excellence and impeccable conduct
based on principles of equity, honesty and uprightness.
"Each one of you
is important and will have to shoulder heavy responsibilities for leading the
country to a prosperous and bright future," he added.
Earlier in his
welcome address, the rector said that the university administration had taken
special initiatives to improve the quality of education. He said that highly a
highly qualified academic staff was being hired and the expansion of Islamabad
campus was on the cards to provide maximum facilities to the students. Rashid
said the university was managing outreaching programmes and that the university
had entered into academic collaboration with the Leicester University,
Nottingham University, Greenwich University and Trieste University. Daily Times
