Dr Hafiz Pasha joins BNU: PU MA student
LAHORE, Jan 02, 2008: Dr Hafiz Pasha, former deputy chairman of the Pakistan
Planning Commission has joined the Beaconhouse National University (BNU) Lahore.
According to a press release, Dr Pasha joined the BNU as dean of the School of
Social Sciences and professor of economics. Dr Pasha had been serving as
assistant secretary general and regional director of the United Nations
Development Program (UNDP) for Asia-Pacific since 2001. Dr Pasha is a
distinguished economist with a large number of books and publications to his
credit. In 2005, the Philippines parliament had awarded him the confessional
model of honour for his work on poverty. Dr Pasha also intends to expand his
research activities at the Institute of Public Policy. Daily Times
MA student issued result card on ombudsman's directive
LAHORE: Punjab University has issued the result card of a candidate for MA
English Part-II examination, withheld on account of alleged ineligibility, on
the orders of Punjab Ombudsman, Abdur Rashid Khan. The complainant Asma Noreen
lodged a complaint that after passing MA English Part-I exam in 2000, she
appeared in Part-II annual exam 2004. Her result card dated April 30, 2005 was
shown her to have failed in papers II & IV and declared eligible to reappear
in the two papers till annual examination 2007.
To clear compartment of the
aforesaid two papers, she appeared in MA English Part-II examination 2006, and
passed both the papers. On the demand of the University authorities, she
produced her previous result card of annual exam 2004, but in stead of being
issued the result card of exam 2006, she was informed that she was not eligible
to participate in that exam as her last chance had been exhausted in 2004. The
complainant averred that she had already passed M.A. English Examination Part-I
in 2000, appeared in Part-II Examination held in 2002. F.P Report
GCU condoles Benazir's death
LAHORE: The Government College University (GCU) arranged a meeting
in its Bokhari Auditorium on Tuesday to condole PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto's
death. According to a press release, GCU vice chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab and
deans of various faculties, including Dr Aminulhaq, Dr Muhammad Khalid Pervaiz
and Dr Sohail Ahmed Khan, and the other varsity staff participated in the
condolence meeting. They paid tribute to Ms Bhutto for her services to the
country during her premiership. GCU staff secretary Prof Khalid Saleem led the
