FUUAST non-accreditation with PEC
Islamabad, Jan 23, 2008: Students of the
Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) said on Tuesday
that they would continue their protest till the accreditation of the university
with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
They gathered on the
premises of the university and chanted slogans against the administration for
its inability to get accreditation with the PEC. The students said they would
not open the classrooms to press the authorities for their demands. They also
expressed their distrust in commitments made to them by their teachers in this
regard.
They raised slogans against the administration and demanded
resignation of Electrical Department head Dr Asar Khan, campus in charge Dr
Mansoorul Ansari and Administration Officer Iqbal Joya. They said these
officials were responsible for their exploitation and were not fulfilling the
promises they made to them regarding the university accreditation.
The
students said these officials were forcing them to indulge in unconstructive
activities and asking them to press the recently appointed Vice Chancellor (VC)
Dr Muhammad Qaiser to establish his office at Islamabad Campus instead of
Karachi. The students said they were not in favour of such demands and only
wanted solutions to their problems and accreditation of the university with the
PEC.
The students said they would welcome the VC at Islamabad campus
instead of putting officials' demands in front of him.
The students also
criticised the government for the establishment of academic institutions lacking
necessary facilities. They urged the government to pay attention to students'
future instead of inaugurating incomplete projects and institutions. Daily Times
Students warn admin of moving Supreme Court
Islamabad, Jan 22, 2008: Students of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science
and Technology (FUUAST) on Monday warned the university administration to
approach the Supreme Court if it failed to get the university accredited with
the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) at the earliest.
The students said
the university administration had put their future on stake by making false
promises.
They resumed their protest on Monday at the university campus
and boycotted classes. The students hung banners around the university inscribed
with their demands, 'Save our future,' 'accredit the university with PEC,'
'induct at least four PhDs and 30 MS teachers.'
The students vowed to
continue their peaceful protest and to approach other available platforms to get
their rights.
They expressed grave concern over the false promises the
university administration made at the time of admission that it would get
accreditation with the PEC but nothing has practically been done. They said
their course was ending in June but unfortunately the university had acquired
accreditation so far.
The students said the administration claimed that
the university was accredited with the PEC but it proved wrong when during 52nd
meeting of the PEC, it was disclosed that the university was not up to the PEC
standards. They said the PEC had asked the university to appoint required
faculty members having PhD degrees and fill the vacant posts in the relevant
department. Despite the frequent notices of the PEC, the university had failed
to recruit the faculty members.
However, the officials at the university
said that due to high salary packages in private universities,
teachers did not join the university, as it could not pay them according to
their demands.
The students demanded of the recently appointed vice
chancellor to visit Islamabad campus and listen their grievances as far as their
studies were concerned. They said that it was pitiable that they were on boycott
since December 2, 2007 but no relevant authority heeded to their peaceful
protest.
The students said their studies were being disturbed as the
university administration left them with no option but to go to streets to get
their demands fulfilled. They said they would claim their expenditure charged by
the university if it failed to get the accreditation. Daily Times
New FUUAST VC takes charge
Karachi: Dr Mohammed Qaisar has taken his charge as the Vice Chancellor of
the Federal Urdu University for Art, Science and Technology (FUUAST) on Monday,
replacing Dr Syed Kamaluddin.
Speaking on the occasion, Qaisar pledged
that promoting university culture here would be his top priority. Because, he
said, it was a college earlier hence it could not develop university culture
after uplift of its status. Furthermore, the problems faced by the university
would be resolved soon and research would be promoted for quality education, he
added. Moreover, he announced that the first certificate distribution ceremony
of two batches would be held in the last week of next month.
KUTS
meeting: Dr, Aqeel Ahmed, President, Karachi University Teachers' Society
(KUTS), on Monday said that the KUTS General Body meeting will be held on
January 22, 2008 (today) at the Arts Auditorium, University of Karachi at

I think students go supreme court and admin the case against his adminstrators (Iqbal joya,Dr Asar ...)and HEC contact with NATIONAL ACCOUNTIBILITY BUREAU (NAB)because HEC gave the funds to these administrators for updating the Labs and Appoint the teachers on contract and handle the student concern problems etc..."
