Education policy by January end
ISLAMABAD, Jan 10, 2008: The final draft
of the National Education Policy 2008 has been finalised and would be presented
to cabinet for approval by the end of this month. However, the educationists
believed that the document should have been thoroughly debated in the parliament
before approval. Officials from the Ministry of Education believed that the
guidelines in the previous policy had been revised with consensus of all the
stakeholders, including the provinces, which were taken on board while giving a
final shape to the policy.
Minister for Education, Science and Technology
Shamsh Qasim Lakha would review this policy first then it will be presented to
the cabinet for approval which includes extensive programmes of education for
all and training of teachers and heads of educational institutions in line with
present day's requirements.
However, well-known educationist, Dr Pervez
Hoodbhoy remarked while conveying his concerns that the white paper, which the
government had released, was rather a discussion paper lacking an action plan or
strategy and there were no information regarding fee structure.
Dr A.H.
Nayyer said instead of presenting it to the cabinet it should have been
presented before the parliament to debate thoroughly as it is a document of
national importance, which would prepare the nation for the coming decades. He
questioned why the previous government did not present it in the parliament for
debate?
The government consulted from the educationists, civil society and
the UNESCO experts and revised the education policy of 1988-2010, which was
prepared in the second term of Nawaz government but was full of flaws and
partially implemented.
Dr Nayyer informed that they had given their
suggestions and recommendations to the government but didn't know whether the
government included it in the final draft or not as the final draft was not made
public yet.
It is also important to mention that the revised curriculum,
addressing all contemporary and future challenges has been prepared and would be
implemented from next academic year as announced earlier. The Nation

"In the Name of Allah Most Beneficent and Most Merciful ALL PRAISE IS FOR ALLAH, THE SOLO CREATOR & LORD OF THE WORLDS QUALITY EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN WITHOUT ANY DISCRIMINATION By the grace of Almighty Allah the government of Pakistan is thriving to provide quality education in Pakistan without any discrimination between different classes and casts of society. Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in order to improve quality of education and provide accessibility to information available online and on databases of different institutions and implement distance learning concept in Pakistan, it is connecting Universities through network to share resources and benefit from lectures of renowned scholars and authorities on different subjects. I am sending you a proposal (just an idea) for your kind consideration and request you to please discuss on it with your planning experts/educational consultants and use your personal efforts for implementation. I believe that this proposal will be very helpful for rural and urban students who can not afford private tutors or coaching centers. In order to reap the benefits of above mentioned steps at the higher level of education, one have to make sure that students coming from Secondary and Intermediate level should have strong foundation to consume the knowledge imparted at higher level of education. For this purpose I propose that The Federal Ministry of Education, Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and Provisional Ministry of Education with the Cooperation/collaboration of HEC s should launch a project which focuses on imparting lectures of renowned professors through CDs. This will not only ensure correct and quality information to students at cheap rates but will also cover a wide range of students and will be beneficial for teachers and adult education. Lectures through Video CDs for Intermediate Students 1. Make arrangement for recording lectures of Intermediate courses by renowned professors. 2. A Video CD contained 3 lessons lectures, 5 CD's sets for one subject - each CD should cost not more than Rs. 10/- so that the student can afford it easily. 3. In this manner a complete set will be prepared and launched in the market at affordable cost for all Intermediate courses. - The Education Board will also provide these Lectures on their websites for those who cannot even purchase CDs. - The Federal Board of Education will also make arrangement to provide these Lectures Video CD's to Schools abroad which comes under Federal Board. I hope this Educational Video CD's program will be beneficial for Students especially for rural and urban areas students who can get benefited from knowledge and experience of renowned teacher/professors at their door step. May Allah Subhanawatallah will give you the best reward for this noble act. Accept my kind wishes and best regards.
