PU teachers, students happy with new VC

LAHORE, Jan 08, 2008: The Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) on Monday hailed the appointment of Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran as PU vice chancellor (VC) and said they would support him for the university's development.

PUASA secretary Mahir Saeed Akhter called the new VC's appointment from the faculty a wise decision. He said the teachers would continue supporting the VC if he made his decisions on merit.

The PUASA members, in a meeting, hoped the VC would take the teachers into confidence before making any important decision.

A PUASA handout has also appreciated the services of the additional VC, Prof Dr Arif Butt.

The PUASA members prayed for assassinated Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto. In another meeting, Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) president Muhammad Yaqoob congratulated the new VC for taking charge.

In an ISO press statement, Yaqoob said the PU was now free from the army's influence. He said the scenario would help students concentrate on their studies and research activities. Talking to reporters, Islami Jamiat Talaba nazim Attiqur Rehman said the students were facing certain problems due to a lack of development funds for the university. Daily Times
