PU teachers, students happy with new VC
LAHORE, Jan 08, 2008: The Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA)
on Monday hailed the appointment of Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran as PU vice chancellor
(VC) and said they would support him for the university's
development.
PUASA secretary Mahir Saeed Akhter called the new VC's
appointment from the faculty a wise decision. He said the teachers would
continue supporting the VC if he made his decisions on merit.
The PUASA
members, in a meeting, hoped the VC would take the teachers into confidence
before making any important decision.
A PUASA handout has also
appreciated the services of the additional VC, Prof Dr Arif Butt.
The
PUASA members prayed for assassinated Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairperson
Benazir Bhutto. In another meeting, Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) president
Muhammad Yaqoob congratulated the new VC for taking charge.
In an ISO
press statement, Yaqoob said the PU was now free from the army's influence. He
said the scenario would help students concentrate on their studies and research
activities. Talking to reporters, Islami Jamiat Talaba nazim Attiqur Rehman said
the students were facing certain problems due to a lack of development funds for

TEVTA offers job training skills to youths
LAHORE: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority is
offering market-oriented programmes and training young people to acquire
job-based skills, said a press release issued on Monday.
The press
statement quoting TEVTA Secretary Muhammad Arshad Bhatti said the authority has
also developed a system for provision of jobs to those who complete training.
Majority of those who complete training are hired by the local industry, he
added.
The secretary was speaking at a ceremony held to mark the signing
of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the University of Engineering &
Technology (UET). Dean Department of Mechanical Engineering UET Dr Arshad
Qureshi, Director Octane Solutions Fahad Iqbal and Chief Operating Officer
Equipment Tech Karamat H Bukhari signed the MoU.
The Secretary said that
the principal objective of signing the MoU was to establish a formal
relationship between the three organisations to collaborate with each other in
areas of common interest to provide trained manpower to the industry.
The authority will provide students, official support, assistance and
patronage for the successful implementation of the project. It will also be
responsible to facilitate M/s Octane Solutions for development of demand-driven
training programme, implementation of the training programme and certification
on successful completion of training. The authority will also arrange training
of teachers of TEVTA in the area of computer aided drafting (CAD), computer
aided engineering (CAE) and operation of computerised numerical control (CNC)
with the collaboration of M/s Octane Solutions. The News
