PU sets up counselling centre and student guidance
Lahore, Jan 03: The Punjab University's Health Centre has established a Student
Guidance and Counselling Section. According to a press statement issued
on Friday, a team of doctors and experienced psychologists will provide advice
and guidance to the students who face difficulty in pursuing their academic
careers due to psychological and adjustment problems. The students will also be
provided necessary medicines besides counselling. PU Chief Medical
Officer Dr Farasat Ali Syed said the counseling section had been established as
per directives of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran to resolve students'
such problems as usually remained untreated in society and to build their
personality. He said a career counseling section would be established at the
PU's Student Teacher Centre (STC) to provide advice to students regarding
communication skills, career building and procurement of suitable jobs. The News

IJT protests against Punjab University admin
Lahore: The Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT)
on Friday staged a protest demonstration at the Lahore Press Club against the
Punjab University (PU) administration for expulsion of its members from the PU.
Carrying placards they shouted slogans against the PU vice-chancellor.
Those expelled were 'innocent', they said. The protesters also criticised the PU
Disciplinary Committee. In December 2008, the PU administration expelled seven
IJT members on charges of gross misconduct. Daily Times

PU declares MA, MSc results
Lahore: Punjab University Examination Department has
declared the results of MSc Chemistry, MA Economics and MA French. In MSc
Chemistry Part-I Annual Examination 2008 pass percentage is 61.31, MA Economics
Part-I, Annual Examination 2008 pass percentage 11.86, MA French Part-I and
Part-II Annual Examination 2008 pass percentage is 25 and 100% respectively.

First-ever PhD in Total Quality Management
Lahore: The Punjab University has awarded a PhD to Muhammad Usman
Awan in the subject of Total Quality Management after completion of his thesis:
"Development of Pharmaceutical Distribution Model for Customer Satisfaction."
According to a press statement issued on Friday, this is the first-ever PhD
awarded in the subject by any institution in the country. Muhammad Usman Awan
completed his thesis under the supervision of Professor Dr Abdul Rauf while PU
Institute of Quality and Technology Management Director Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad was
his co-supervisor. The News
