Wind of change hits Punjab University
The change in the establishment of the Punjab University
Lahore, Jan 02: The progressive "Punjab University Teachers Alliance" is symbolized the
change in the political scenario of the Punjab University. The change in the
establishment of the Punjab University caused by the winning of the progressive
"Punjab University Teachers Alliance" has weakened the hold of the Jamiat in the
Punjab University thus has started the power struggle between the different
student unions to establish there selves in Punjab University In lieu of the
announcement of the lifting of the ban on the student unions, made by the Prim
Minister of which notification is yet to be issued, different student unions are
organizing themselves among which University Student Federation (USF) and
People's Students Federation (PSF) are most prominent. University Student
Federation is winning the support of students due to their non political and
open minded stance whereas the Peoples Students Federation (PSF) has also a
great opportunity to capitalize due to its liberal stand. Amir Jalal,
Information Secretary of University Students Federation (USF) talking to the
Frontier Post alleged that Jamiat is a fascist organization which has spread
terror among the students and was not the true voice of the students but of the
political parties. He added that support of the political parties corrupt the
amateur minds of the students which are used by the political parties for their
own vested interests. He said that Jamiat was used by the so-called right wing
forces to get the political benefits and show their strength in the
demonstrations of the political parties. He alleged the recent incident of
firing by Jamiat members on our member is evidence of the brutal mentality of
Jamiat. He further alleged that Jamiat now need death to put blame on others for
their survival as the students have rejected them. He claimed that USF has no
political support from any of the political party and is the true voice of the
students. Zuhaib Butt, General Secretary of the PSF Punjab speaking on the issue
said that reign of terror on the university is over as the students have
rejected them due to their failure to protect the rights of the students but in
fact had spread terror in the minds of the students. He added that Jamiat's main
emphasis was on restricting the girls and boys to interact instead of ensuring
the provision of rights to the students. He added that these fundamentalists and
narrow minded people are in fact, restricting the mental growth of students. PSF
students have training and are aware of the rights of the students and know to
attain the target due to its previous experience. Rehan, Secretary Information
of the Jamiat talking to the Frontier Post said that notification of the lifting
of the ban on the student unions is still not been issued but we are considered
to be the voice of the students by majority of the students due to our long term
efforts. He added that student unions establish there selves with the support of
the students and we are wrongly alleged of the support from the teachers. He
further said that our struggle is noteworthy in convincing the government to
lift the ban due to which government has announced to lift the ban though the
notification is not issued yet. Commenting on the issue of allegations he added
that we were been previously been alleged of various things but nothing was
proved so we are working to serve irrespective of the allegations imposed on us.
Sunny, General Secretary of Muslim Student Federation (MSF) speaking on the
issue said that MSF had been deliberately maligned for terrorizing people but it
was all propaganda. He added that we are organizing our selves and are in
liaison with our friends and sympathizers, there in Punjab University. He said
that change is a good thing and other unions should also get a chance to serve
the rights of the students. Mumtaz Malik, Information Secretary talking to the
Frontier Post said that we are devising our strategy to unite our students in
Punjab University to work to ensure the provision of proper rights to the
students. F.P
