KU approves 33 PhD, MPhil, MS degrees
KARACHI, Jan 4(Dawn): The Board of Advanced Studies and Research, University of
Karachi, has approved grant of PhD, MPhil and MS degrees to 33 candidates in the
faculties of Science, Islamic Studies, Law, Pharmacy, Arts and
Medicines.
According to a KU notification, the board meeting chaired by
vice-chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim after considering various reports pertaining to
thesis and scientific works approved award of 21 PhD, 10 MPhil, and two MS
degrees.
Those cleared for PhD degrees are: Azhar Siddiqui of chemistry
department; Ijaz Ahmed, Seema Zareeen, Muhammad Nadeem Kardar and Shazia Yasmeen
of HEJ; Abdul Rahim Khan, Mehrun Nisa, Muhammad Hassan Imam, Waqar Yousuf Azeemi
of Islamic learning; Kaneez Fatima, Anjum Bano and Khadija Khatoon of special
education; Mohammad Zahid and Hina Afzal of zoology; Fouad Masood Qureshi of
genetics; Muhammad Shamim of law; Javed Aftab of marine biology; Sadia Saeed of
microbiology; Tous Khan of pharmacognosy; Muhammad Asad Thanvi of Quran and
Sunnah; and Javed Iqbal of space and planetary astrophysics
institute.
MPhil degrees were recommended for Aisha Sana, Erum Hamza and
Nuveria Yasmeen of pharmaceutical chemistry; Muhammad Suhail Anwar and Syed
Muhammad Mushtaq Alam of pharmacognosy; Sadaf Bhutto of chemistry; Kahlid
Mahmood of marine biology; Syed Inayatullah of mathematics; Hajra Iqbal of
pharmaceutics and Aisha saeed of Urdu department.
The board approved MS
degrees for Dr Ahmed Ali and Dr Irshad Ahmed of orthopaedics
department.
ADMISSIONS: The director admissions of Karachi
University has said candidates, whose names appeared in the provisional
admission list for Masters and BS (Morning) programmes, can deposit their
admission fees on January 4 and 5 at the dean faculty of arts office from 9am to
1pm.
BDS EXAM:The examination forms and fee of final professional BDS annual examination,
2007 could be submitted from January 5 to 20. Examination fees, including the
mark sheet and sports fee, have been fixed as Rs2,300.
In the meantime, the university also released the provisional
admission lists of BS Evening.
PRACTICALS: The fifth and sixth
semester practical exams of BCS affiliated programme (December 2006) will be
conducted in computer science department from January 4.
The practical
exams of courses 2304, 2307 and 2342 will be held on January 4 and courses 2315
and 2335 will be conducted on January 5.
