New education policy by mid 2007
ISLAMABAD, Jan 4(Daily Times): The Federal Ministry of Education will finalise the new
national education policy by the middle of 2007.
This was decided here on
Thursday at a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Education Lt Gen (r) Javed
Ashraf Qazi. The meeting was told that a pre-policy paper, or 'white paper', had
been finalised after consultation with and incorporation of the suggestions of
various stakeholders. These suggestions came out at seminars arranged by
ministry at the provincial capitals. The views of the provincial education
departments were also incorporated in the draft policy.
The meeting
decided to place the white paper on the ministry's website so stakeholders could
provide feedback by January 20, and these could be included in the final policy.
The meeting was told that in January 2005, the inter-provincial education
ministers' conference had endorsed the need to review the national education
policy, following which a review team was constituted in September 2005 with the
mandate to assess the policy through dialogue with the stakeholders.
