Princeton announces Transregional fellowship
KARACHI, Jan 22 (Daily Times): The Institute for the Transregional Study of contemporary
Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia at the Princeton University, US, has
announced "The politics of contemporary Islam" as its research theme for the
academic year beginning September 2007 and ending June 2008.
Under this
general theme, the institute invites applications for research fellowships from
applicants with any disciplinary or theoretical perspective, for example law,
theology, sociology, anthropology, politics and literature, as well as Islamic,
gender and Diaspora studies.
The institute is looking at any area in
which Muslims live and are engaged in some form of Islamist politics. Fellows
will be expected to teach a one-semester undergraduate seminar, which may be
open to graduate students, to pursue independent research at Princeton, and to
participate in the institute-related activities on campus. Preference will be
given to academics whose research, teaching, and professional activities relate
to the Institute's theme for the year, and travel assistance of up to $1,000 for
round-trip, economy class airfare will be available to the fellows and their
immediate families.

based upon the successful applicants' qualifications. It will be subject to the
approval of Princeton University's dean of the faculty and relevant academic
departments.

three-page statement of the research interests that they would pursue at
Princeton, and a brief outline of the course that they would propose to teach.
