Punjab University allowed PhD scholars to submit theses
Lahore: The Punjab University has allowed PhD scholars, who could not
submit their dissertations within the given time period, to submit their
research theses after the approval of their supervisors directly to the office
of deputy registrar (academic) for evaluation in the Advance Studies and
Research Board (ASRB).
This was decided unanimously in a meeting of the
Advance Studies and Research Board which was presided over by Vice Chancellor
Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran at New Campus on Thursday.
The meeting solved all
the cases pending with the board for the last many years and now there was no
pending case for review in the board, as all cases of PhD scholars, sent to ASRB
by PU departments, institutes, colleges and schools, had been resolved.
The meeting also decided that a written directive should be issued to
all heads of departments to submit all their remaining cases to the ASRB to
facilitate the scholars and promote research culture in PU.
In
Thursday's meeting, ten PhD synopsis, eight reports on PhD theses and one panel
for PhD thesis' review were approved. This was the seventh meeting of ASRB since
Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran had taken the charge as vice-chancellor, and a total 174
PhD synopsis, 64 reports and 65 panels had been approved during this period.
As per Higher Education Commission's directive, the board's meeting also
approved research journals of different PU departments and now they were
included in the HEC recognized journals.
The decision was taken in the
light of the demands made by PhD scholars during their recent meeting with the
vice-chancellor. The delay in the submission of PhD theses is usual and, in the
past, many scholars could not complete their PhDs but now the PU had allowed
these scholars to submit their dissertations, and the decision was likely to be
welcomed by all research circles of the country.
Among those who
attended the meeting included Prof Dr Jamil Anwar, Prof Dr Shahida Husnain, Prof
Dr Javaid Ahmed, Prof Dr Muhammad Jamshed, Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Prof Shaista
Sonu Sirajuddin, Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal and the registrar.
