CPSP to start new residency programme
Rawalpindi, July 18, 2008: The College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) is
launching a new structured residency programme according to international
standards. In this connection, it will hold a seminar here tomorrow (Saturday)
to brief postgraduate trainees and supervisors.
"As many as 1,493
trainees, registered with the CPSP, will be briefed on the programme in the
first session of the seminar on Saturday morning," said Professor of Medicine at
Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) Dr. Shoaib Shafi, who is the CPSP counsellor as
well.
In the second session of
the seminar to be held on Saturday evening, he said, CPSP President Professor
Zafarullah Chaudhry would give a briefing to more than 150 CPSP supervisors on
the new residency programme.
The CPSP is the highest degree-awarding
institution in Pakistan providing postgraduate medical education in 54
disciplines.
"The CPSP has planned to extend its programmes," said Dr.
Shoaib Shafi. From August this year, the it would start providing postgraduate
education in four new disciplines - rheumatology, endocrinology, critical care
medicine and infectious diseases. The News

Lithuania allocate 30 seats for Pakistani students in Medicine University
Islamabad: Republic of Lithuania the member state of European Union has allocated 30 seats for
Pakistani students on self finance basis in Kaunas University of
Medicine.
Pakistani students can apply for
admission in the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Public
Health.
The session will start from
October 1, 2008. The university has advised the interested students to contact
consulated of Republic of Lithuania located in Shahid plaza Blue Areas Islamabad
for further information and details.
Republic of Lithuania is also
member state of Schengen. Honorary Consul General of Lithuania said adding that
arrangements have been made for issuance of Schengen vias on behalf of Republic
of Lithuania in Islamabad.
He said that this facility has
opened new vistas for increase of trade and education between Republic of
Lithuania and Pakistan.
He said Pakistan can also benefit
from this facility in the field of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Live Stock and
Diary products as Lithuania has very rich experience in these areas. App
