IJT 'hooliganism' at Punjab University

University Students Federation protests against IJT's 'hooliganism'
Lahore, July 05, 2008: Workers of the University Students Federation (USF) in Punjab University (PU) protested against the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) at the Lahore Press Club for beiting up its workers on Friday.

They shouted anti-IJT slogans, saying that IJT activists were threatening them. They said the IJT was still 'active' on campus. They said the IJT had also been holding gatherings in several hostels.

After the announcement by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to remove a ban on student unions a number of student unions including the Insaf Students Federation (ISF), USF and Imamia Students Organisation started taking part in politics on campus.

USF Media Secretary Imran Sial said that IJT activists, illegally residing in PU hostels, had beaten up their workers a couple of days ago.

A PU Law College student and a USF worker said, "On Wednesday, Hostel-2 IJT Nazim Suleman and seven IJT workers including Allah Rakha and Muhammad Ramzan thrashed a student, Ghulam Hussain. We complained to the VC about the incident, but the VC took no action."

Ahsan Chaudhry, a student, said, Sabir Shah, an IJT activist and illegal resident of Hostel-15, had threatened to hurt him. He said their protest would continue till the expulsion of the "IJT hooligans".

PU IJT Media Secretary Imran Kiyani alleged that PU Hall Council Chairman Saeed Ahmed Nagra was instigating students to protest against the IJT.

He said that IJT had started a movement against the expulsion of 72 of their workers from the PU. He accused USF workers of beating up IJT activists in PU hostels. Dr Saeed Ahmed Nagra said the PU administration had taken action against illegal boarders in PU hostels. He said he was not instigating anyone to protest against the IJT.

PU Spokesman Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori said, "We have received complaints against the IJT activists and the PU disciplinary committee is discussing the matter." Daily Times

I saved myself by stepping back but the knife hit my hand and a deep cut of 5cm long(according to medical reports by Jinnah hospital and confirmed by University CMO) and other several injuries on my face and hands. I appealed before V.C. but no action still is taken even after a month. USF is just a B-team of VC how they can they take any action against them."
