Peshawar board matriculation results, position-holders
Welfare school excels in SSC exam
Peshawar, July 30, 2008: Mercy Pak High School and Vocational Training Institute,
an educational institution for orphans and destitute children, has shown
excellent results in recent matriculation Peshawar board examination.
Imdadullah, a matric student, stood first in school by obtaining 754 marks while
Musanaf Shah and Shamsullah got second and third positions by bagging 734 and
732 marks respectively. Amjad Ali, a ninth class student, stood first in school
by securing 450 marks out of 525 while Sami Ullah and Yaqoob jointly got second
position by securing 431 marks and Usman stood third in school by obtaining 429
marks in 9th class board exam. All students got A-plus and A grades and set a
record. School Principal Dost Muhammad Khan congratulated the position-holders

Islamia College University Peshawar (ICUP) to admit students in 10 disciplines
Peshawar, July 30, 2008: Islamia College University Peshawar (ICUP) will admit students for BS
four-year integrated programme in 10 disciplines while six departments will also
simultaneously offer MA/MSc programmes during the next academic session starting
from September next. Heads of six departments have been tasked to develop a
curriculum in the next couple of days for four-year BS programme to be
implemented with the commencement of new academic year. It was decided in a
meeting of the heads of departments with the Vice-Chancellor Ajmal Khan in the
chair. Speaking on the occasion, Ajmal Khan said arrangements were in the final
stage for making the recently up-graded ICU functional. He said merit would be
followed strictly as it would lead to the real success which the great seat of
learning deserved.

Disaster Management Centre approved for UoP
Peshawar: The academic council of University of Peshawar (UoP) has accorded
formal approval to Disaster Management Centre that would start functioning from
the current academic year. The council with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Azmat Hayat
in the chair also gave approval to the changes and modifications proposed by
several departments like sociology, social work, journalism and others. Academic
council is the body wherein initial approval is given to all academic changes
and enrolments after which the matters approved by it are presented before
university syndicate.
The decision to set up Disaster Management Centre was
taken recently by the university administration. A one-year diploma course in
the centre would be started soon. The centre has been under consideration since
long, however a formal notification to this effect was issued some three-weeks
back. Prof Dr Amir Nawaz Khan was appointed as director of the centre. The
centre would educate and train students about natural calamities. Initially
postgraduate-diploma courses would be started in the centre and master's degree
programme would be started in the subject from the next academic session.

2,600 lecturers await promotion in Rawalpindi
Rawalpindi: Nearly 2,600 lecturers, appointed in different colleges of the
province including Rawalpindi in 1987, have still not been promoted into the
next grade even after a lapse of 21 years. According to sources, these
lecturers, comprising a large number of women, are performing their duties in
the same scale of Grade-17 since their appointment. Sources further said that
196 vacancies of assistant professors were vacated but the above-mentioned
lecturers are still deprived of their just right of promotion. The News
