Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) NTS Test
List of health officials sent to SPSC
Larkana, July 14, 2008: The names of 1300 doctors and paramedics who had
cleared tests conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS) have been sent to
the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) for scrutiny.
The SPSC after
verification of documents would hold viva examinations of the candidates and
would recommend them to Sindh government for appointments.
Sindh Health
Secretary Shafique Khoso said this after the inauguration
of a two-day seminar on "Primary Trauma Care" at Chandka Medical College Larkana
on Saturday.
He said that SPSC had been asked to complete the exercise
within a month.
When asked why a bill to establish the Shaheed Benazir
Bhutto Medical University (SBBMU) in Larkana had been delayed, he said they were
working on it.
He said the cabinet of Sindh would shortly okay the bill
and later it would be presented in the next session of the Sindh assembly. He
hoped that the bill would be passed.
It has been learnt that earlier it
was decided to link the Nawabshah Medical College with the SBBMU, but now the
idea has been dropped and that is why the bill has been delayed.
The
secretary said that Basic Health Units and Rural Health Units in Sindh after
changing their managements were performing well.Responding to a question that
medicines of inferior quality had been purchased and supplied to the district
headquarters, taluka headquarters and teaching hospitals, he said he would
ensure the supply of quality medicines to hospitals.
"We are in touch
with the federal government to get foreign scholarships for the doctors of
interior of Sindh," he said.
Doctors from interior of Sindh in past had
been ignored and now Sindh government had decided to send them abroad in
different disciplines for higher education, Khoso said.
Pakistan Health
Services Director-General Prof Rashid A. Jumma, Dr Saeed Minhas, Chandka Mdical
College Principal Prof Surgeon Sikandar Shaikh, Dr Zameer Soomro and others also
spoke in the seminar.
They underlined the need for understanding the
priorities of trauma management with rapid and accurate assessment of needs of a
patient in trauma. Dawn

French university in final stages
Karachi: An ambitious project of a French science and technology university is in the final stages and is scheduled
to start next year in Karachi, said the Consul General of France in Karachi
Pierre Seillan, who will be marking the French National Day today, July
14.
This year, in collaboration with the HEC, 190 students have left for
France to pursue higher education in the top institutions of France, he said in
a message to the people of Pakistan. The French National day commemorates the
French Revolution and the universal of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, said a
statement. This year's National Day coincides with the assumption of the
European Union Presidency by France from July 1, which provides her a unique
opportunity to promote bilateral relations with Pakistan on two tiers. Pakistan
a strategically located country with 160 million inhabitants posting an
impressive growth rate and is an important economic, strategic and cultural
partner of EU and France.
The four top priorities of President Nicolas
Sarkozy which France will work on as president of the EU include sustainable
development and energy, the European Pact on immigration and exile, re-launching
the European Defence programme and state of health. Co-operation between
Pakistan and the EU can be enhanced in some of the relevant fields.
On a
country-to-country level, France has taken the initiative by establishing the
offices of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Islamabad which will disburse
soft loans in different sectors, including energy. French investments in
Pakistan have surged to $500 million. Important French groups such as Accor,
Lafarge, Carrefour and L'Oreal have entered or are poised to enter Pakistan.
French naval ships are calling more often. The two navies are holding joint
maritime exercises and patrols to make the world waterways safer. Daily Times

SAU employees seek VC's removal: Malpractices, nepotism alleged
Hyderabad: Sindh Agriculture University Employees Union
activists held a demonstration outside the press club on Sunday, demanding
removal of Vice-Chancellor Dr Basheer Ahmed Shaikh, accusing him of being
involved in malpractices, nepotism and favouritism.
The employees who
have been on strike for over a week under the banner of the Employees Action
Committee alleged that the vice-chancellor had appointed an army of retired
professors and officers, in addition to a large number of his close
relatives.
They accused him of appointing his three sons, a daughter, a
niece as well as a large number of relatives and relatives of his
cronies.
They said that having completed his tenure in 2004 the
vice-chancellor had been granted extension till 2011.
The university
employees had voted for his removal in a referendum held recently, which annoyed
him so much that he has started taking punitive action against the leaders of
the committee.
The committee leaders said that the president of the
Employees Welfare Trust, Karam Ali Punnu, had been placed under suspension and a
false case had been registered against 20 other employees.
They said that
they accepted the registrar's challenge for a public debate and were prepared to
hold it at the press club where they would produce documentary evidence of
alleged malpractices of the vice-chancellor and his team.
They demanded
dismissal of the vice-chancellor and appealed to the chairman of HEC Dr Attaur
Rehman to appoint an impartial inquiry committee to probe misuse of tens of
millions of rupees spent on different projects.
