World Bank scholarships for foreign universities
32 Punjab officers get World Bank scholarships
Lahore, July 18, 2008: The Punjab government has recommended 32 officers of the provincial cadre for scholarship in various
foreign universities.
The selected officers will attend various
disciplines of masters degree programme, including human resource development,
policy management development, management and administration etc.
The degree
programme will be of one year.
Candidates for two scholarships could not
be finalised owing to non-relevant subjects, sources in Services and General
Administration Department (S&GAD) said.
The World Bank offered 34
scholarships to the Punjab government for its provincial cadre in April as a
part of the Punjab Capacity Building Programme.
The bank has provided
$61 million to the federal government, of which the Punjab government will be
given $2 million. The Punjab government will contribute $1 million to the
programme.
As many as 35 officers of the provincial cadre had applied
for the scholarship and a committee headed by Planning and Development chairman
conducted interviews on July 10. Fawad Hassan Fawad, the S&GAD secretary,
said the names of candidates had been finalised and all selected would be

PUCAD students display theses work
Lahore: Punjab University College of Arts and Design (PUCAD) Bachelor in
Fine Arts (textile designing) students displayed their theses work here at
Alhamra Art Gallery on Thursday. Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr
Mujahid Kamran inaugurated the exhibition of the work of 14 students of the
first batch. PUCAD Textile Designing In-charge Aiza Sohial, Principal Zafar
Ullah, Israr Chishti, Jamshaid Chishti and a large number of teachers as well as
students were also present on the occasion. Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran
visited all stalls where Aiza Sohail and concerned students gave him briefing
about their work. Students exhibited their work in form of wall hangings,
textile items, interior designing items, dresses, bed sheets, curtains,
etc.
Speaking on the occasion the VC appreciated the creative sense of the
students and said that their work was up to the markets standards and modern
requirements of the industry. Dr Mujahid Kamran ensured the administration of
all out support for the promotion and development of such activities.
PUCAD
Textile Designing In-charge Aiza on the occasion said that all students' work
was marketable and she told the VC that out of 14, five students have already
received job offers from weaving industries and boutiques on handsome salary
packages. These BFA students had selected special topics for their work for
instance Hassan Babar worked on 'dieing images' by using the pictures of
historical buildings in his work, Nosheen Zaidi topic was 'Save Gaia', Fiza
Javed worked on 'Universal harmony', Zohaib Aslam topic was 'My car my world' so
he used different sketches and parts of cars in his designing.
Mehwish Naveed
used 'Mughal Glory Beckons' in his designing, Quratulain Ali Choudhary topic was
'Purity is white' and she prepared a wonderful bed linen pillows by using unique
technique. Bismah Iqbal works theme was 'Back to the Future', Madiha Mansoor
topic was 'Primitive spirit, Reema Siddiqi was 'Seven deadly habit' so she used
envoy, anger and other such sentiments in her work. PUCAD Principal Zafar
Ullah on the occasion said that to define textile art in all its inexhaustible
aspects had been a challenge to aspirants of all ages in a rapidly changing
