KU announces B.Sc results
Karachi, July 09: University of Karachi (KU) has announced the results of B.Sc. (Pass) PART-II / Both Parts Annual Examinations 2008. Asma Hanif was placed in First Class First position, Muneeza Abdul Quddus secured First Class Second position and Mehreen Muhammad Iqbal secured First Class Third position. All the position holders are from D.H.A. Degree College. According to the KU statistics 4349 students were registered for the examination, 4154 appeared and 1395 of them passed out. SHC dismisses KU petition against Sindh ombudsman
Karachi: A constitution petition filed by University of Karachi (KU) against provincial ombudsman and Dr Zakia Bibi was dismissed on Wednesday by the Sindh High Court (SHC).

The petition was filed through the KU registrar who maintained that respondent Bibi and four others were proceeded against on charge of plagiarism and a KU syndicate later dismissed them from service. Bibi later moved an application before provincial ombudsman after which an inquiry was initiated and KU officials were summoned. Later KU filed a petition challenging the alleged inquiry. The provincial ombudsman director appeared for the respondents and submitted that the inquiry was initiated under section 2 of Provincial Ombudsman Sindh 1991. He also submitted that the ombudsman can investigate as mal-administration was alleged by the complainant. The bench after hearing the sides dismissed the petition by KU. Daily Times

Over 6,500 schools found closed after inspection
Karachi: Around 6,740 schools remained closed in Sindh province, according to advisor to chief minister (CM) Sindh on CM's Inspection, Enquiries and Implementation Team, Waqas Malik who was speaking at a press conference at his office on Wednesday.

Talking about performance of the inspection team during outgoing year, Malik said they received 52 complaints about closed schools, roads and the revenue board etc, out of which 25 inquiries were completed while others were pending. He said most of the complaints/reports pertained to development work and its poor quality.

He said mostly, they start inquiry into complaints when chief minister instructed them. However, sometimes, they also conduct inquiries on media reports. The advisor said keeping in view of poor record of the inspection team during last several years in terms of conducting inquiries; he had issued instructions to complete at least two inquiries each month. He said since last five years, hundreds of reports remained unattended. He pointed out that in year 2006, around 151 complaints were received but the same were not finalised. The CM's inspection team set up in 1978 had total 60 employees, out of which three were technical experts who help in preparing inquiries.
