College tests start, Camb results soon

KARACHI, July 26: Four institutions have scheduled their admissions test within the week for which thousands of candidates are expected to turn up for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in medicine, engineering and business.

The next few weeks are also going to be crucial for students planning to go abroad. Exam results for Cambridge International A Level, O Level and Cambridge IGCSE from the June session will be released to staff at Cambridge centres on Aug 9. The results will be released at 00:01 UK time. O Level students will be scrambling to apply to the city's select A Level institutions and colleges and A Level students will be packing their bags for college, some here, some abroad.

Sir Adamjee Institute, Indus Institute of Higher Education (IIHE), Bahria University (BU) and Liaquat National School of Physiotherapy are the first to have scheduled their admissions tests from July 26 to Aug 1 for the 2007 academic session. Also, the NCR-CET Intermediate College has also announced July 31 as the date for its aptitude test for Intermediate students.

Sir Adamjee Institute's courses include a BBA (4 years) and MBA (2 years) in the morning course. "More than 500 candidates have registered for the test," said an official. Its courses come under the University of Karachi affiliation program and are academically managed by the Commecs Educational Trust.

The Indus Institute of Higher Education (IIHE) deadline for admission forms is today. It is offering BS, BBA and MBA in Textile and Fashion Design degrees along with BBA, MBA, EMBA, MS/M.Phil and PhD degrees in Business Administration. Students can also apply for the BE/BS, MS, B-Tech and M-Tech degrees in Engineering Science.

For the Institute of Professional Psychology, Karachi BU, admission forms can be submitted till Saturday and the admissions test will be conducted on July 29, Sunday. Other BU courses such as the Engineering Programs/BS (CS), MS Engineering/Maritime Studies and MBA will have their tests on Monday. Tuesday is scheduled for the entry test for the BBA/BS/BSS, BS (Geology/Geophysics) and BS (Environmental Science) programmes.

According to the BU officials, admissions merit will be determined by giving 60 percent weightage to academic eligibility marks and 40 percent weightage to the Bahria University Admission test ETC score as applicable.

The fourth institute to conduct admission test this week is the Liaquat National School of Physiotherapy. It offers a two-year Masters Program (MSPT), which is affiliated with the University of Karachi. The deadline for application forms is Tuesday and the test is on Wednesday.
