Hafsa illegal parts will be demolished

ISLAMABAD, July 5(The Nation): Warning Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi to surrender unconditionally as he is left with no other option, the Interior Ministry Spokesman Brig (Retd) Javed Iqbal Cheema late Wednesday night said that the government would demolish the illegal parts of Jamia Hafsa after operation.

Addressing a press conference to update the media about sharp taking place developments, Brig (Retd) Javed Iqbal taunted that after unsuccessful attempt of the 'Supreme Commander Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi in the disguise of a veiled woman' the religio-extremists did not have any rationale to resist the forces, adding, therefore, all of them including younger Ghazi should surrender unconditionally.

Reiterating the government's commitment to end the dispute once for all, the interior ministry spokesman hoped that after the arrest of Maulana Abdul Aziz, the operation would come to an end not late by Thursday morning.

Responding a question, he said that the Maulana did not surrender rather he was arrested by the Ranger and he would be treated as per the law. He has to face so many criminal cases that are registered against him, he added. Maulana along with his wife was arrested when they were trying to flee at 8.15pm, he said.

On another query, the ex-military man gave the update figures about dead and wounded, which according to him stood at 16 dead and 94 injured. He said these figures are on the basis of body counts and after the cleaning up the Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa the final numbers would be more than these.

"About 1, 200 people have so far surrendered and after the arrest of Maulana Aziz the seminary students are coming out in bulks," he told.

Javed Iqbal categorically made it clear that those who are involved in firing cases and in burning government buildings and vehicles would not be spare at any cost as, according to him, the government has video clips of all these activities.

The spokesman once again repeated the offer of General Pervez Musharraf that the government would take full responsibility of those who would surrender and want to spend normal life.
