'KU students deprived of facilities'
Karachi, July 27: The Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT), University of Karachi, on Friday released a
white paper, alleging that university students were deprived of transport,
library books and sports facilities despite availability of huge funds. The
white paper was issued during the 'students' rights campaign launched' by IJT at
the university.
The white paper held the KU administration responsible
for depriving students of proper facilities by the gymnasium, sports and
libraries.
It said that despite huge budgets in the university, these
facilities were on the verge of collapse. It said that Rs4 million were annually
allocated for the transport department but despite this the condition of buses
was poor.
The students are compelled to travel in these overcrowded
buses daily in very risky manner, the white paper remarked.
"During
student union era, there were 105 buses for 10,000 students in the Karachi
University but at present there are just 26 buses for 20,000 students," it said.
"The condition of Mehmood Hussain Library is extremely pathetic and
deplorable despite its annual budget of Rs11.5 million. The Library faces acute
shortage of books and journals," the white paper said. The news
