Pakistan-France University to start functioning from Oct.
KARACHI, July 14: Pakistan-France University will start functioning in the metropolis from October
this year.
This was stated by the
Project Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Regional Centre,
Karachi, Prof. Dr. Syed Altaf Hussain, on Friday.
He said that the process of
hiring the faculty is continuing at the moment.
Prof. Altaf said that the
last date for the submission of the application in this regard was July
10.
The response from within the
country and abroad has been very good, he added.
Prof. Altaf stated that
Pakistanis living in a number of countries are applying because the package that
is being offered is very attractive.
He informed that the
teaching at the Pakistan-France University will commence from October this
year.
Initially two-years/ master
courses would be offered in the disciplines of mechanical engineering and
information technology.
The number of students to be
offered admissions would be between 100 to 200 and eligibility for admission
would be four-years' engineering degree from a recognized
university.
Prof. Altaf said that
advertisement for admissions would be placed within this month.
The classes will commence
from October this year at the present premises local at the Pakistan Marine
Academy here.
Land has been acquired for
the construction of the second campus off the National Highway.
Pakistan France University
is being established to rise as a world class university of engineering, science
and technology in the public sector.
It is being set up with the
active collaboration of a consortium of French
universities coordinated by the University of Technology (UTT), Troyes,
France, Prof. Altaf further stated that UTT located some 80 miles away from Paris, is among the top six engineering
universities in France.
Pakistan-France University
is among the nine universities being established with the assistance of the
developed countries like Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden,
Austria, Japan, China, South Korea.
The Government of Pakistan
will spend more than Rs 250 billion on these over a period of next 10
years.
This will help the country
catch up in the realms of education and human resource
