PU master's students complain
LAHORE, July 21: The Punjab University's Registration Branch did not
send roll number slips to all the candidates of Masters degree exams and many of
the ones it had sent did not have the right details of the candidates, learnt on Friday.
Many candidates complained that they had received
roll number slips with their names and details but not their pictures while some
others said that they had received roll number slips of other candidates and not
theirs.
PU Registration Branch deputy registrar Iqbal Khalil admitted
that the branch had received many complaints of wrong details and pictures on
roll number slips. He said his department had not made any mistakes in placing
pictures on roll number slips. He said the institutions that sent registration
forms had pasted wrong pictures on them. He said the PU had not withheld any
roll number slip and had sent all of them on the correct addresses and in time.
He said that the issue of wrong names on slips could have been the fault of
university officials. He said the Registration Branch was solving candidates'
problems regarding mix-ups. He said that in many cases the department had issued
roll number slips instantly on complaints.
PU Controller of Examination
Prof Taqi Zahid butt said that the PU's examination system was
computerised and there was little chance of mistakes. He said the examiners had
the right to take action against candidates with fake roll number slips. He did
not rule out the possibility of mistake and said that the purpose of sending
roll number slips beforehand was that if any candidate had a complaint, he could
resolve the issue in time.
Rafaqat Ali, a student of MSc Zoology in
Science College on Wahdat Road, said that the Registration Branch
had sent him a roll number slip with his name on it, but the picture of someone
else. He said that when he went to the examination centre, the examiners said
that his roll number slip was fake and threatened to file a case against him. He
said that when he contacted the Registration Branch, its officials told him to
get confirmation certificates from the institutions from where he had passed his
bachelor degree and intermediate certificate. He said he was not the only one
who faced the problem, adding that many other students he knew also had such
faults on their roll number slips.
Shumaila, a student of MA from
Sialkot, said that she could not get her roll number slip on the due
date and had missed her papers because she did not have her roll number slip.
She said that she visited the university, but the officials were unhelpful and
her trip was a waste of time.
Adil Aziz, A student of MA Islamic Study
from Sargodha, said that the PU had sent him the roll number slip of
one Amir Sultan and he came to Lahore to hand over the slip to Sultan.
An
examiner at the PU's Examination Centre, requesting anonymity, said that he had received many cases of candidates with wrong pictures or wrong
details on their roll number slips. He said that he had to expel such candidates
from the examination centre since he could not accept such slips according to
the rules. Daily times
