Teachers call off protest campaign
LAHORE, July 2(Dawn): The Muttahida Mahaz Asatza Punjab (MMAP) has announced
the suspension of its agitation campaign following a marathon meeting with the
Punjab government top officials, led by chief secretary Salman Siddique, at
Punjab Civil Secretariat on Saturday.
According to a news release issued
by the MMAP, the chief secretary has assured the team that the Punjab government
is not considering to denationalise nine educational institutions.
The
spokesman said the chief secretary also assured the delegation that teaching
allowance would be given to teachers.
The meeting also discussed other
demands, including time-scale promotions, issues related to educators,
equalisation of urban and rural areas allowances, increase in headteachers and
science teaching allowance, revival of old academic session, monitoring system
and the role of NGOs in institutions.
