HEC Film and Television Dept at NCA
HEC establishes Film and Television Dept at NCA
Islamabad, June 05, 2008: The project of Higher Education Commission (HEC) to
establish Department of Film and Television at the National College of Arts
(NCA), Lahore, has been completed successfully and the Department has started
providing education and training in the field of Film and Television Production.
The HEC has funded the renovation of the existing buildings and procurement
of equipment for the establishment of the studio. The Department is presently
offering a four-year bachelors degree programme in Film and Television
Production and will soon launch a one year postgraduate Diploma in Script and
Screenplay. It will also offer certificate and diploma courses and a master's
degree programme in future. The need for this Department was felt because of the
rapid expansion of media in the last decade as the international media giants,
globalization of television media and acculturation due to foreign film and
video materials is presenting a threat to our cultural identity in the new
global village.
The NCA courses aim at preparing graduates capable of
producing the artistic and professional moving images that are in great demand.
The curriculum and disciplines (film, drama, documentary, news and current
affairs, and such others) would include discourses on cultural effects, cultural
identities and other communication issues in the new global village.
The
existing NCA environment will help enlarge students' vision by triggering
multiple layers of creative, intuitive and intellectual thought processes and
seed a mastery of form, content and structures as well as solid fundamentals
with the integration of digital media which has globally created its own space.
The NCA, as a college of arts, will also benefit from this programme. The
incorporation of motion picture (film and television) courses will reinforce the
existing teaching of visual arts and audio arts at the College. NNI
