Karachi, June 25, 2008: Sindh Minister for Information Tech-nology Mohammad
Raza Haroon has said that 7,000 students would be given IT training and
scholarships in first phase of Benazir Youth Development Scheme. This he said
while talking to MNA and former Adviser Waseem Akhtar in his office on
Tuesday.
Raza Haroon said IT department is taking steps to train the
students. At present there are 11 IT Awareness Centers in Karachi and 29 in
interior Sindh while 300 computer learning centers would be established in 23
districts. The minister said that 200 acres had been acquired to establish an
Internet Media City in Karachi.
He said that though a proposed IT
University a large number of youth could be provided with IT education and
training. He also welcomed the increase in budget for IT. PPI

KU announced BDS results
Karachi: University of Karachi (KU) has announced the results for the B.D.S. Final Professional annual
examination-2008. Kanwal Gulzar (Liaquat Medical College of Medicine and
Dentistry), Sana Raza Khan (Jinnah Medical and Dental College) and Saman Mahfooz
Ali (Liaquat Medical College of Medicine and Dentistry) secured the first,
second and third positions respectively. A total of 230 candidates were
registered, the same number appeared and 191 of them passed the examinations.
The passing percentage was 83.04.

KU evening programmes claim forms
Karachi: KU Director Admissions Dr Saleem Shahzad has announced that
the date of submitting the Claim forms for the Evening Programmes have been
extended till June 27. A list of the successful candidates will be issued on
June 28 at 03:00 pm. The examination forms for Final Professional M.B.B.S.
examinations could be submitted by July 5 with a fee of Rs. 2500. The News

NED clarifies report on land
Karachi: NED University of Engineering and Technology has issued a
clarification to news that appeared on June 08 titled 'KU and NED
fight over 5 feet strip of deserted land'.
NED University was
established in 1977 by the government, taking 100 acres from the large surplus
of land available inside the 1,500-acre plot set aside earlier for the
University of Karachi. Subsequently, more land was taken out from KU for IBA.
The only present outlet from NED University for hostel students going
towards Maskan is by one path leading to Abul Hasan Ispahani Road through thick
vegetation in the unoccupied part of KU. In view of the lack of any other outlet
for hostel students, KU was requested to allow NED to clear one 30-feet wide
strip outside its staff colony boundary wall. The area is unguarded and there
have been several cases in which NED students have been robbed at gunpoint.
NED repeatedly requested KU to take action, following which the governor
of Sindh directed KU to transfer the strip of land on March 28. NED University
is, now, taking over the strip of land as authorized and has said there is no
