Admissions to KU evening programme

Admissions to KU evening programme start today
Karachi, June 02, 2008: The Directorate of Evening Programme of the University of Karachi (KU) has started admissions 2008-09 for two-year Masters and Diploma Programmes from Monday (today), according to a press statement issued on Sunday. The minimum qualification to apply for the admissions is a second division graduate degree.

Admission forms would be issued and collected during June 2 to 12 from the UBL Silver Jubilee Gate while the list of successful candidates will be announced on June 20. The 'Claim Form' will be issued from June 20 to 23 while the claim list will be displayed at the Evening Programme Directorate on June 25. Fees will be collected from June 20 to 30, at the Directorate. Classes will start on July 1.

The programme offers important subjects such as Applied Physics (with specialisation in Electronics), Criminological Sciences, Mass Communication, Petroleum Technology, Public Administration and several other subjects. A new Masters in HRM and a three-year MBA (Finance and Management) programme are a special attraction for professionals.

The several Postgraduate Diploma programmes include Industrial & Organisational Psychology, Local Government and Qur'anic Arabic language.

Director, Evening Programme, Prof Dr M. Abuzar Wajidi, was confident that these courses would help the professionals enhance their skills and qualification. He added that the fee structure is quite affordable and more subsidised than any other university.

Since its inception in May 1995, the Evening programme has so far produced approximately 16,000 graduates and masters who are engaged in respectable and responsible positions, adds the press statement.

"Summer and winter certificate courses being introduced at the university will enhance students' qualification without having to spare years of study in order to bring the academic qualifications of its students at par with those of international institutions and to meet the increasing innovations in commerce, business and HRM," revealed Dr Wajidi.

As a step to improve the same, a process of evaluation of teachers is going to be started in the Faculty of Management & Administrative Sciences. "This process will support improving discipline among teachers, better teacher-student relations and elevate standards of studies," he added.

The admissions will be open for the fall 2008-09 for Masters and Diploma programmes. The degree duration will be of 2-year Masters programme. The programmes would be started from Monday (today).

A Bachelor degree in Arts/Science/Commerce, at least in Second Division from any recognised university of Pakistan will be the minimum requirement for Post-Graduate Diploma in Investigative Psychology; there will be no quota seats except self-finance basis. This was said by the KU Deptt of Psychology Director/Chairman and Associate Professor Evening Programme, Haider Rizvi on Sunday.

He said, "This is a matter of immense pleasure that the Department of Psychology in its history has started the following programmes to expand the discipline of Psychology. The programme has been specially designed for those who have already been employed and could not get the opportunity to enhance their knowledge; or who wanted to study Psychology but could not get the opportunity to do so.

The primary objective of the diploma in investigative psychology is to enable the students to get a broader picture of the behavioural science and to help them develop social skills in dealing with the community and law-enforcement agencies. The said course will enable students to familiarise themselves to scientific analysis of psycho-social aspects of crime with special reference to Pakistan."

He said that in 2007, classes used to be held from 6-9:00pm; however, schedule of classes are made according to the convenience & consensus of the students.

He said that the diploma would be comprised on two semesters, while in the first semester five courses would be taught. Such courses include Introduction to Human Behaviour & Ethics, Psychopathology, Crime & Genetics, Geography of Crime, Research Methodology and Statistics and Psychological Approaches to Understanding Crime.

The second semester will include six other courses, including Psychometrics and Computer Applications, Psychology of Terrorism and Violence, Principles of Crime Prevention and Security, Criminal Law In Pakistan and Communication Skills and Psychological Investigative Methods in Policing, while project will be compulsory, he added.

Talking about the eligibility for the Post Magisterial Diploma Course in Industrial & Organisational, he said students should hold a masters degree in Industrial & Clinical /Applied/Educational Psychology from an accredited university of Pakistan/South East Asia/Western Union or any other foreign university.

Those with a masters degree in business administration /information technology/medicine/engineering/public administration may be considered for admission, provided there is no sufficient number of applicants available from a psychology background, he said.

Applicants are directed to contact the KU Directorate Evening Programme. The Psychology department is not concerned with the admission process. The Nation
