Intermediate, degree exams postponed
KARACHI, June 13: Three universities and the Board of Intermediate Education of
Karachi have postponed all the exams, which were scheduled for Saturday.
A BIEK spokesman announced on Friday night that the board had postponed
all practical exams, which were scheduled for June 13. The new dates for the
postponed practical exams would be announced later, he added. The
University of Karachi, Federal Urdu University of Science and Technology, and
Allama Iqbal Open University, in their separate statements, also announced
postponement of all exams, which were scheduled for Saturday. KU entry
tests rescheduled The University of Karachi has changed the venue and
timings of the aptitude tests for MBA (Banking and Finance) admissions in the
evening programme. A university spokesman announced on Friday that the
tests, which were planned to be conducted at the Institute of Bankers Pakistan
on June 14 at 11am, would be held at the faculty of arts at 4pm. The director of
Karachi University's evening programme, Prof Abuzar Wajdi said that about
1,200 candidates had applied for 50 seats available in the MBA (Banking and
Finance). About the number of candidates who have applied for other
courses being offered in the evening programme, including two-year masters and
one-year postgraduate courses for which no aptitude test is held, he said that
the directorate of evening programme has received 4,000 applications so far. A
merit list of the successful candidates would be announced on June 22, he added.
The last date for admissions to the university's evening programme
(2009-10) had earlier expired on June 10, but it was later extended till June
13. University sources said that thousands of students, who had appeared
in their BA and BSc final examinations, would not be able to get admission in
the evening programme as their results were still awaited. Even the BCom
(regular) final-year candidates whose results were announced only a couple of
days ago would not be able to seek admissions in the evening programme, as their
marks-sheets had not been issued so far. However, Prof Wajdi said that
the students, who took degree exams this year and secured second division, were
eligible for admissions in masters and postgraduate diploma courses. Dawn

Karachi: The University of Karachi Friday announced that all the examinations
scheduled for Saturday (June 13) morning and evening have been
postponed. KU Registrar Prof. Raees Alvi said the in the announcement
that the new dates for the above exams will be announced later. It may be
mentioned here that the university had to take the above decision in view of the
tense situation in the city.

FUUAST student shot at
Karachi: A student of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science, and Technology (FUUAST)
was shot at by armed men in Aziz Bhatti police limits. Imran Abbasi a student of
Bachelor of Science of FUUST, Abdul Haq Campus, was called by Vice-Chancellor of
the Urdu University, Gulshan Campus. When he reached at the main gate, accused
Raza Jadoon, Ismail, Zakaria, and Shah Kalaam fired at him due to which he
sustained a bullet wound in his chest. Police lodged an FIR. The police said
that the nominated persons belonged to a political group. No arrest was made in
the case so far. The News
