Intermediate & Karachi University exams postponed

Intermediate, degree exams postponed
KARACHI, June 13: Three universities and the Board of Intermediate Education of Karachi have postponed all the exams, which were scheduled for Saturday.

A BIEK spokesman announced on Friday night that the board had postponed all practical exams, which were scheduled for June 13. The new dates for the postponed practical exams would be announced later, he added.

The University of Karachi, Federal Urdu University of Science and Technology, and Allama Iqbal Open University, in their separate statements, also announced postponement of all exams, which were scheduled for Saturday.

KU entry tests rescheduled

The University of Karachi has changed the venue and timings of the aptitude tests for MBA (Banking and Finance) admissions in the evening programme.

A university spokesman announced on Friday that the tests, which were planned to be conducted at the Institute of Bankers Pakistan on June 14 at 11am, would be held at the faculty of arts at 4pm. The director of Karachi University's evening programme, Prof Abuzar Wajdi said that about 1,200 candidates had applied for 50 seats available in the MBA (Banking and Finance).

About the number of candidates who have applied for other courses being offered in the evening programme, including two-year masters and one-year postgraduate courses for which no aptitude test is held, he said that the directorate of evening programme has received 4,000 applications so far. A merit list of the successful candidates would be announced on June 22, he added.

The last date for admissions to the university's evening programme (2009-10) had earlier expired on June 10, but it was later extended till June 13.

University sources said that thousands of students, who had appeared in their BA and BSc final examinations, would not be able to get admission in the evening programme as their results were still awaited.

Even the BCom (regular) final-year candidates whose results were announced only a couple of days ago would not be able to seek admissions in the evening programme, as their marks-sheets had not been issued so far.

However, Prof Wajdi said that the students, who took degree exams this year and secured second division, were eligible for admissions in masters and postgraduate diploma courses. Dawn
