KU MA exams in makeshift tents | MBA aptitude test
KU examinees not to sit in makeshift tents any more
Karachi, June 15: About 18,000 students appearing in the MA (Previous) and MA
(Final) Examinations-2008, which begin on June 15 (today) will get a pleasant
surprise when they reach the University of Karachi (KU). They will be more
comfortable as they have been accommodated in classrooms with fans and new
furniture and not in the tents as was customary till the previous year.
Controller of Examinations Dr Nasiruddin Khan, a Professor in the
Department of Mathematics has revitalised the sitting arrangements in the
examination with the motto that "students are very precious for the society and
they should be given due recognition". Dr Khan expressed his determination that will see a congenial
environment for the students when they come to take their examinations. "We have
arranged cold drinking water for the examinees along the route from all the
university gates to the different departments. A KU shuttle will be there to
ferry the students back and forth and the KU Examination Department staff will
be there to guide the students", he proudly informs. To facilitate the
examinees, Dr Khan had asked for and got all the classrooms in the newly-built
building in the Faculty of Arts. New fans and furniture were also bought in the
endeavour to end the practice of examinees sitting in the make-shift tents in
the scorching heat without fans and drinking water. Even the KU doctors and
engineers and other essential staff will be on the duty to meet any
eventualities. "We have initiated the construction of the 'Examination
and Multifunctional Complex' near Maskan Gate. It will be a huge complex
that will serve as an examination centre and as marriage halls when there are no
examinations. This will enable the external students to enter the KU and enter
the complex without having to roam the campus looking for departments. It will
have all the facilities including 15 washrooms", he said. At the same
time, Dr Khan intends to deal strictly with cheaters and those found
impersonating others. "I had asked for more powers from the Vice-Chancellor and
he has agreed to my request. Now we will take action against such persons. I do
not agree with the practice of fining Rs5,000 and letting the offenders go. We
will file an FIR against them. We will not allow such people to drag the
university's name in the mud", he says firmly. There are 4,721 male and
6,785 female students for MA Previous while 7,696 male and 10,250 female
students are appearing in the MA Final examinations. The university has
established 15 centres for the male and 14 for the female students.
