One injured as rival student groups clash at FUUAST
Karachi: A student was injured when rival student groups clashed at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) in Gulshan-e-Iqbal within the limits of Aziz Bhatti police station on Thursday. The clash took place between the activists of Islami Jamiat-e-Taliba (IJT) and Pakhtoon Student Federation (PkSF) on the campus.

The attack is believed to be in retaliation to the death of an IJT activist two days ago. Police officials said that Imran, the student who got injured due to a bullet injury, belongs to IJT. Following the incident, a heavy contingent of law enforcers reached the spot, but was unable to make any arrests. Later, a huge crowd of IJT activists staged a demonstration in front of Aziz Bhatti police station against the police, accusing the police of patronising the PkSF.

Addressing the protest, IJT Karachi General Secretary Noman Hameed demanded that the Sindh home minister and police chief remove Aziz Bhatti police station SHO as well as order the arrest of the nominated culprits at the earliest. Hameed said that PkSF activists had entered the IJT central office on June 5 and injured five workers. As a result, one of the IJT workers succumbed to his injuries in a hospital and no arrest has been made so far.

Police officials said that they are trying to arrest the nominated culprits, adding that they were not responsible for the injury of the student. They maintained that when they reached FUUAST, both rival groups were fighting in a brutal manner and as a result that one of the student's received injuries. The police have lodged an FIR in this regard. Daily Times
