University of Karachi MA external exams mismanagement
Disorder mars MA external exams
Karachi, June 16: The MA (previous and final) annual examinations for external
candidates began at Karachi University on Monday amid accusations of
mismanagement. Over 18,600 candidates are taking the tests at 23
different examination centres set up at various departments on the campus,
including the new block of the faculty of Arts. The candidates taking
their exams at the new block of the Arts faculty were seen perspiring in the hot
and sultry weather as the recently constructed block has no electricity
connection as yet. In the absence of proper guidance from the KU
administration for the candidates, many candidates faced immense difficulties in
finding their examination centres at the campus which is stretched over a huge
area. Because of mismanagement, at most examination centres, papers
began at least 15 to 20 minutes late. However, KU officials gave some
extra time to compensate candidates for their time loss. Meanwhile, the
KU controller of examinations, Prof Nasiruddin Khan said about an incident
in which a candidate who had got injured in a road accident outside the campus
was immediately shifted to the university clinic in the KU ambulance.
After being given first-aid, the injured candidate was rushed to his
examination centre so that he should not miss his paper, Prof Khan said.
As soon as the injured student finished his paper, he was sent back home
in the university's ambulance, Prof Khan added. Unlike past years'
experience, not a single case of impersonation was detected during the exams on
Monday. Dawn
